Cheers mate!....'Appy Shralya Day to youse to.

just for today, i would give vegemite a try instead of marmite

Reminds me of an old adage I picked up in my youth.

An Irishman spends half his life getting away and the rest of it singing about the bloody place. biggrin.png

Happy Australia day :D

Ita Buttrose as Australian of the Year. Well detherved.

I'm an American and the Brits always tried to convince me that Australia day was 1 April. But I should have known better, Happy Day!

My Thai wife went into Sydney today to see her cousin become an Australian Citizen. She said there were a multitude of asians taking the oath and that she saw about 100 Thai's becoming Australian Citizens. She will be eligible in a year of so, she is learning English at the moment at TAFE sponsored by the OZ Gov for a change. Something free.

HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY TO ALL

If you marry an Aussie Sheila!

Three friends married women from different parts of the world............

The first man married a Filipino.

He told her that she was to do the dishes and house cleaning.

It took a couple of days, but on the third day, he came home to see a clean house and dishes washed and put away.

The second man married a Thai.

He gave his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes and the cooking.

The first day he didn't see any results, but the next day he saw it was better.

By the third day, he saw his house was clean, the dishes were done, and there was a huge dinner on the table.

The third man married a girl from Australia.

He ordered her to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed, and hot meals on the table for every meal.

He said the first day he didn't see anything.

The second day he didn't see anything.

But by the third day, some of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye and his arm was healed enough that he could fix himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher. He still has some difficulty when he pees.

Happy Australia Day to all Aussie members in LoS.

Let me break into prose for ya:

I love a sunburnt country

A land of sweeping plains

Of rugged mountain ranges

Of droughts and flooding rains....

Pretty apt really, considering half the country is suffering cyclonic wind, rain and flooding today while the other half battles raging bushfires.

Ita Buttrose named Australian of the Year

...

The Young Australian of the Year is 25-year-old mentor Akram Azimi, an Afghan refugee kid who was ostracised when he started school in Western Australia 13 years ago. He became his school's head boy and now he's triple-majoring in law, science and arts at university. So he belongs now, but he hasn't forgotten what it felt like not to belong, which is why he also mentors marginalised young indigenous people in remote communities.

The Local Hero award went to indigenous community leader Shane Phillips, born and raised in Redfern. He has done remarkable work in juvenile justice and Aboriginal deaths in custody, and has worked to improve relations with police and decrease robberies by indigenous youths.
