Thai Authorities Nab 17 Foreigners in Island Immigration Raids
Yes, they have to show that they are working and getting rid of a grain of sand every now and again, while they keep lining their pockets from their agent friends who give them a nice cut of their fee to get that stamp after the money is deposited and withdrawn by the agent. I would be nervous if I didn't have the funds in the bank and used an agent to get me that stamp for an annual fee of about 20k baht (varies), just sayin. Why sink the boat when you can throw a few souls overboard. -

Russia’s economy is doomed
Having read the pro-Bolshevik posts in this thread, its worth saying when it came to dying in WW2, it was mostly Ukrainian and Belarusans, rather than Russians. Abotu 45% of Soviet casualties were Ukrainian. The high causualty rates were due in part by the meat grinder tactics employed, with waves of Soviet infantry attacking Axis positions. Each Army corps (10,000 men) was required to 5 units of barrier troops, each of 200 men. Their job was to round up deserters, and send them back to the front. barrier troops had their own barrier troops from the NKVD. So more than 10% of Soviet military resource was put in to prevent desertion. This was in addition to Mikitary Police, who's job was mainly in marshalling; traffic duty. The Western Allies had no such barrier troops. In principle, military police would also round up those who went AWOL. I had a great uncle who was a Bevin Boy. He had enough of being down a mine in Kent and went home. They rounded him up, but I think he played the system long enough that by the time he accepted a deal to go into the army, the war was over. Getting an idea of the number of Western Allied troop MPs is tricky. The US 1st Army when it landed at Omaha and Utah beaches (105,000 men, 75,000 vehicles), were supported by 2 MP battalions, about 1700 troops all told. So as a proxy, Allied military police strength consumed about 2% of troop resources. American and British troops didn't need to be forced forward at the point of a bayonet. Resources were managed much more carefull than the Soviets. The meat grinder tactics were because the Soviet leadership considered the proletariat to be expendable, especially as most of them weren't Russian. And its the same now. The Russian leadership accuses the Ukrainians of being racist Nazis, but they are the biggest Nazis, in that respect. They still won't expand conscription among the mainly Rus populations of Moscow-St Petersberg, preferring Asiatic or Muslim minorities, and when they run out of those, disposable troops from DPRK (none of those North Koreans will be ever going home). The Russian leadership will twist it around about the great "sacrifice" of the Soviet people. Something is a sacrifice when you have a choice in the matter; they never willingly gave up their lives for a failed Georgian priest. Some Communist apologists will claim that human wave wasn't the only tactics, that the Soviets also employed the concept of "Deep Army", but they can't explain the need for 10% barrier troops. We are seeing a repeat of this in the 21st Century. A winning army. -
