American And Canadian Insurance Companies For Travel Insurance

The reason I am asking about American and Canadian travel insurance is because a lot of the insurance companies are the same in canada and the US like Statefam Allstate Co operators and many others just to name a few.

They all sell travel insurance was wondering if any poster bought from them and your experience wit them?

Example if I am hurt do they pay he bill for u or do u have to pay it and then they reimburse u ?

Or do they have affiliate companies here that they del with?

As you can see I know nothing about the travel insurance from thess companies.

Any info thanks in advance?

I do not buy from those companies. However, the relevant information would be how long would be your time ex-USA, how long in Thailand, and how long would you be in other countries besides Thailand but ex-USA. Also, do you have any conditions that would be considered 'pre-existing conditions' or related to such conditions that might cause you to seek medical attention while you are outside USA.

The reason being is that based on the above answers you might be better off buying from a company besides those that you mention. In particular, there are coverages available (all through Lloyd's syndicates in Bermuda) that would require that you be a minimum each year outside the USA for 6 months.

Also you do not say whether you are a citizen of USA or Canada which makes a big difference.

I am from Canada and travel only back to Canada for work with oil companies. So my rotation changes a lot some times 4 months working at a time with 2 monts off it all changes . No previous medical conditions .

So if you are really only concerned with coverage while you are in Thailand, you could look at travel insurance issued in Thailand such as BUPA, Allianz, AXA, or maybe others on the condition that your coverage period begins and ends in Thailand.

You can purchase these coverages direct while in Canada to begin on a certain date e.g.

http://www.bupa.co.t...ance/index.aspx

with BUPA as with others each stay in Thailand may be limited to 180 but that doesn't seem to effect you given your schedule

I used to buy travel insurance prior to going to Thailand. I looked and looked everywhere and I could NOT find any company that pays directly. All require you to bill them. Some companies said they had 24 hour support and would talk to the hospital and assure them of your coverage, but I could not find anybody that directly paid claims or bills. My conclusion was when you leave the Thai hospital, the bill is due and you need to pay it. If you don't insurance and you walk in with anything major, you might have admittance and treatment problems. It would take me some time to dig up the agencies I bought the short term temporary coverage with. It has been several years.

I no longer buy any insurance prior to traveling. I have Florida (USA) Blue Cross Blue shield and if I have an issue while in Thailand I would have to submit the forms and bills to Blue Cross for reimbursement. There is a small chance the hospital can connect with Blue Cross and get some of the bill paid up front, but I am not counting on that. In the USA when I get treatment away from home, the Blue Cross network does communicate and the appropriate coverage is applied before I get the bill.
