Screen For Existing Aluminum Windows?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I have sliding aluminum windows and have just noticed an existing extra "rail" for a screen to slide along. The rail is on the inside, top and bottom. My problem.....I don't know the manufacturer, and can't contact my builder.

The locking handles seem to have a logo that perhaps reads "reliance".

Does anyone have any ideas where I may track down some screens for these in the Phimai, Korat area?

Any help, clues, comments or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your time,

Eric

Can't help with a retailer but our windows and mozzie screens were all made from scratch on site. They came with all the alluminium, glass, cutting gear and machines etc. They then make each window individually and fit the locks etc. Therefore, knowing the manufacturer of the locks wouldn't really make a difference as they didn't make the full units.

As long as you have the spare rail in place (which you do) any local window installer should be able to come round and make them on site for you. I believe this way of doing them is as common as buying made-to-measure from a factory. If you live in a Moo Baan they may have been done in a factory but this still shouldn't be a problem. Ask around locally for a window fitter would be my first step, they don't cost much either. If memory serves me right, I think our seven windows only cost an extra 3,000baht to have the mozzie screens done at the same time.

Sorry pumpuiman. Just checked on the prices and my memory doesn't serve me right. The windows were 25,000baht and with Mozzie screens fitted 29,000baht. So 4,000baht for the screens. Still no big expense though.

If they are not powder coated aluminium, but the standard silver or bronze color, then any aluminium shop will be able to make those insect screens for you.

I don't know anything in Pimay, but I suppose there will be plenty of aluminium shops around.

If it is color powder coated aluminium, it will be a little more difficult to track down one who has the right materials.

Here's an example of one of mine. They are all white and made from lengths of Ally on site. I can't confirm if they are powder coated or not but I would assume so. You can just see in the left window the two bars (plastic) that strenghtens the mozzie screen.

Thanks for the detailed information. I'm going off in search a maker today. I'm looking forward to a nightly breeze that doesn't come from my air conditioner!!

Thanks again,

Eric

Go to a shop that makes custom windows and they will come to your house, measure and make them for you. They're not really expensive. When I built my house we finished the openings for the windows and had someone come in and measuure. Three days later we had windows and screens installed, the right way with the screens on the outside..

Thanks, wayned...I've got it sorted out, doing exactly as you and others have suggested.
