Ex-senator accuses Abhisit of deceit in Bangkok governor race

BANGKOK: -- Former senator Ruangkrai Likitwatana yesterday filed an election complaint against Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and a Democrat MP in connection with the Bangkok governor race.

newsjsIn his letter to Apichart Sukhagganond, chairman of the Election Commission (EC), and Thaweesak Tuchinda, chairman of the Bangkok Election Committee, Ruangkrai charged Abhisit and MP Sirichok Sopha with violating Article 57 of the Local Council and Administration Act.

Ruangkrai said Sirichok framed Pheu Thai candidate Pongsapat Pongcharoen by linking him to the political violence of red-shirt protesters. He said Abhisit deceived Bangkok voters by announcing that he was running on No 16, which is actually the candidacy number of Democrat candidate Sukhumbhand Paribatra, the incumbent governor.

Ruangkrai also called on the EC to investigate an incident in which Seri Wongmontha, an academic, had tacitly urged voters to re-elect the Democrat candidate to block Pheu Thai from "seizing control of Bangkok".

Thaweesak said Ruangkrai had no right to file the complaint because only Pongsapat or other candidates had that prerogative.

He also said Sanhapong Suksrimuang, an independent candidate, had submitted more evidence to back up his claim that Suan Dusit Poll, Abac Poll and Bangkok University Poll had conducted unfair opinion surveys.

When I accuse the government of violence I do so in the knowledge that they called in the army for crowd control, they allowed them to be armed with live ammunition, they authorised the use of live ammunition, they further authorised the use of live ammunition against unarmed civilians employing snipers and designating areas as live fire zones. It happened so why shouldn't I believe it.

Being used to the Dutch equivalent 'een vuist maken' which translates to 'make a fist' and means in Dutch "to protest, to resist/oppose". It seems the British/Australian expression is less violent than that of those bloody Dutch who are known for their like to stir up troubles for esteemed and worthy Native English speakers

When I accuse the government of violence I do so in the knowledge that they called in the army for crowd control, they allowed them to be armed with live ammunition, they authorised the use of live ammunition, they further authorised the use of live ammunition against unarmed civilians employing snipers and designating areas as live fire zones. It happened so why shouldn't I believe it.

And forgetting to mention that the Royal Thai Police were playing away from home during that period of unrest. The first team didn't turn up, so the reserves were called upon to quell the idiots who paralysed the centre of the capital city for months. They were so peaceful, weren't they?
