PATTAYA:--A 28 year old Pedestrian was struck by a fast-moving minivan on the Sukhumvit Road in the far northern outskirts of Pattaya late on Monday Night. Police and rescue services were called to the scene of newsjsthe crash just after 10.30pm.

The body of Khun Winai was lying face-down on the road. The severity of the injuries suggested to Police this was a high impact collision.

Sad.

This is a major news story. " The driver did NOT flee the scene"

''he failed to see the victim crossing the road''

At the speed they always drive, whether they see a pedestrian or not is the same.....

It is just as much the fault of the pedestrian. I frequently have a hard time seeing these dolts dressed in dark clothes walking carelessly along the road.

RiP, another useless loss of life, high speed driving of the van driver combined with allkohol intoxivation of the pedestrian is a deadly mix :(

"The severity of the injuries suggested to Police this was a high impact collision."

That enormous dent on the front of the van is a bit of a clue also.

It might have already been there from a previous accident laugh.png

But why didnt the driver flee the scene?

That is the big question .

The road was poorly lit...........obviously no reason to adjust the speed, which should be 90km/h maximum (as per 1-4-2012).

With all the negative press and comments these van drivers receive question regarding the speed he was driving at must be raised, however, without that information the driver can't be blamed.

When someone crosses the road they take the responsibility upon themselves to do so at a time when it is safe and traffic free.

This event appears to simply be a tragic human error on the part of the deceased pedestrian.

Lighting on many of the roads is very poor - it would be unrealistic to expect every driver to limit their speed to 30 kmh on the off chance that there may be a pedestrian crossing who hasn't looked out for traffic.

Yes Richard, you are right, but when most of us here the word Mini Van, it brings up pictures of an idiot, racing twice as fast as he should be, and of course coming up behind you, only two meters away. Usually there are two or three, all racing together, so other cars wont be able to get between them.

Maybe he was afraid of being run down by a "fast-moving" car, on the poorly lit road? sad.png
