Unilever to invest more in Thailand

BANGKOK, 13 February 2013 (NNT) - The multinational consumer goods giant Unilever is preparing to increase its investment in Thailand by 2.8 billion baht on confidence that domestic consumption will continuously expand.

newsjsChairman of Unilever Thailand & Indochina Bauke Rouwers estimated that the overall Thai economy would continue to be strong while the 300-baht minimum wage increase would help stimulate purchasing power. As the consumer goods market in Thailand was likely to grow, he said Unilever had set plans to invest more in the country by building a plant to manufacture home utensils at Lat Krabang Industrial Estate. The new plant is worth 800 million baht.

In addition, Unilever will also set up a product distribution center in Chachoengsao province with investment of two billion baht. The company has set a target to make sales grow more than last year, which saw revenue of 40 billion baht or a 13% increase compared to 2011.

So here we go again, more good news for the Yingluck government and more importantly, Thailand. A double whammy, not only an investing increase with plans for more to come and an endorsement for the minimum wage and its effect to stimulate spending.

And where are the nattering nabobs of negative naysaying - all trying to pour scorn elsewhere it seems.

Thanks again Mr Thaksin. Having a government that the world recognises and accepts as democratically elected sures helps swing these deals. It was on the cards LMFAO...not until Thaksin was back in charge

Unilever has been in Thailand over 100 years.

so has corruption, nothing new here. any extra industry, etc is more than welcome it IS surely needed to help pay for all the borrowing that is being carried out/planned. Unilever are big players here, pity the government are not saving this income. Paying back the borrowing is the big concern.

Isn't it great to get these companies to invest, revenue to go on massive projects with large ammounts maybe never to be seen again.. WE NEED this revenue to help pay for urgently needed -rail-road-hospital-schools-disabled-blind-education for orphaned kids- so much more. Lets have more Unilevers, and less corrupt officials.

I didn't know the thread was about Thai government corruption. I thought it was about Unilever to invest more in Thailand. You know American companies that have been in Thailand for more than 100 years would not do so if they were losing money due to corruption. I would not have lived in Thailand so long if I was losing money due to corruption. Ginjag has Thai corruption bothered you of late? Why don't you start a thread about it.biggrin.png

It's good to start threads. Giving back some of your expertise after taking so much advice from others or just for entertainment. Have you ever started a thread Ginjag?
