Yesterday my wife was given a non imm O visa , multi entry here in BKK based on my B visa. Valid until 11th March 2014 However there are a couple of stamps inside that are confusing:

"To keep your stay permit re-entry permit must be made before leaving Thailand"

and

Notiication of residence must be made every 90 days.

Generally my wife will leave Thailand before the 90 days are up so does she have to do the above? Is the re-entry permit the TM 6?

Her last entry was 13/12/12 so she has a stamp to leave before 12 March, now that she has an O visa does she have to leave?

Must be basic questions but would like clarification

Thanks all

When you have extension of stay you have to report every 90 days to your local immigration office. If you leave the country you need a re entry permit to keep the extension valid. I single entry is 1800b a multi entry 3800b. If no re entry then the extension will be invalid. If she leaves the country during/before the 90days expires then the new 90 days is taken from the date of re entry to Thailand.

If she leaves within the 90 days each time then no action is required: ( no 90 day reporting or re-entry permit)?

If you want to keep the extension of stay. She needs a re-entry permit. A multiple entry one would be the best. She can leave and come back as many times as she wants. I think they are valid for 1 year. Maybe some one can confirm that.

The requirement is to report to Immigration if you spend 90 continuous days in The Kingdom.

If you do not stay for 90 days there is no need to report.

I think she has an Extension of Stay and not a Non Imm O Visa.

A Rentry Permit is valid for the length of the extension.

1,000 Baht for a single.

1,800 Baht for a multi.

She might even have one already judging by your opening post which is a bit confusing.

Your wife was not given a multiple entry visa. She got a one year extension of stay.

As said she will need re-entry permit if she plans on leaving the country.

She received an extension of her permission to stay, not a visa. If she wants to leave Thailand during her extension, she must purchase a re-entry permit. A single is 1000 baht and a multilpe is 3800 baht. If she is continuously in Thailand for 90 days she must report her address at the immigration offgice that gave her the extension. She must fill out a TM47 form. There is no charge for this service. If she leaves Thailand before 90 days, when she re-enters the new 90 day clock will start.. She can do the reports 15 days early up to 7 days late in person, or in most offices by mail, 15 days in advance, not late. If she does not do the required 90 day report the fine is 2000 baht.

A re-entry permit is valid for the life of the extension. Once the current extension expires, so does the current re-entry permit. I keep a single re-entry permit in my passport so I won't kill my permission to stay if I have to leave the country suddenly. Turns out I've never had to leave Thailand, so the re-entry permit expires with the permission to stay and each year I get another one when I get a new extension of permission to stay.

So, yes a re-entry permit is valid for a year if you get it at the same time as the 12-month permission to stay. But, if you wait several months before getting a re-entry permit, then it won't be valid for 12 months, just for until the extension expires.

I think I need to clarify. All on one page she has a Extension of stay until 11 March 2014 and in another stamp below that she has a NON IMM Re-entry permit, multiple entry also valid until 11 March 2014.

I am now clear on reporting every 90 days but does she have to go get a re-entry permit before every time she leaves the country?

(Before this we had the Non Imm O Multi from good old Hull with nothing mentioning about re-entry permits). We always travelled within the 90 days

Thanks

Visas and Extensions are chalk and cheese.

Your wife has extended her last valid passport Entry Stamp (stamp shows Entry Visa class, Admitted Date and Until Date - this is the 'Permission to Stay') made with the Non Immigrant Visa Category 'O' which you say was issued by Hull - the Extension is valid until the 11/3/2014.

Your wife's visa from Hull has doubtless now expired, it's just that her last Entry Until date is now extended until 11/3/14, so a re-entry permit (Single or Multiple) is required to preserve this Extension of Permission to Stay on exit from Thailand, which would otherwise be lost as the visa for the original entry will be long expired.

Looks like your wife already has a Multiple Re-entry Permit which will expire with the Extension in March 2014 - it means she can come and go as she pleases and each time will be stamped back into Thailand with a Permission to Stay until 11th March 2014.

Clear?

Timeline: your wife obtained a one year extension of stay using TM.7 for for 1,900 baht and immediately obtained a multi re-entry permit using TM.8 for 3,800 baht so now has a one year extension of stay until 11 March 2014.

For travel she will fill out the re-entry permit number/information in the TM.6 arrival card as her visa information. She needs to check the stamp after it is made to be sure same 11 March 2014 date the re-entry permit allows (it is a manual process and errors are frequent but easily corrected - especially at source).
