Old Airport As A Lumpini Park?

Recommended Posts

one of the few things that makes bangkok liveable is that a wise King had the foresight to build a big green recreational park in the city. lumpini park.

as i see chiang rai grow rapidly, all i can imagine is the old airport becoming more buildings eventually...

i believe the land belongs to the military....

what are the chances that a movement could be created to have it made into a big green public park, so that once chiang rai becomes as busy as chiang mai is now, the people would have a big green refuge in the city center?

any positive thoughts or ideas?

The tarmac part gets a lot of use for vehicles setting up for all the events that are held there. Also good for people walking around during night events. The areas along the sides could do with some plants. Thais are good at getting an area to look good. Its the maintenance that can be an issue. That park near the river looks run down.

I don’t know, people seem to be happy with things the way they are. No muss, no fuss, low maintenance and a very flexible open area upon which to make money and hold events from time to time. Make it all garden like and you limit what can be done with it. Plus the army of gardeners who would be needed to keep it from turning into overgrown scrubland.

With all the nature around us here in Chiang Rai, I don’t see our needs being comparable to those of Bangkok, at least not for the foreseeable future.

Then again I am not what one would call a civil activist. I simply take note of the terrain in front of me and plot a course over it or around it. I am too lazy to try and change the terrain itself.wink.png
