Allegations of cover-up after Steakhouse Fire at Big C Extra in Central Pattaya

PATTAYA:--Pattaya’s Deputy Mayor is furious at staff and management at Big C Extra in Central Pattaya after it is alleged they failed to contact the emergency services to assist with a fire at a Steak Restaurant newsjsand instead decided to deal with the situation in-house, which officials say was risky and could have endangered lives.

The fire is thought to have occurred at the Santa Fe Steakhouse on the ground floor of Big C Extra at 11.30am on Friday. Fire Wardens employed by Big C were told to deal with the fire while other security staff evacuated the entire Supermarket and Shopping Center.

Water damage to businesses on the ground floor was widespread as in-house firefighters fought the fire which was reportedly extinguished quickly.

Memo to self, never order a well done stake from there.

I would have thought Large Shopping Malls, Large Supermarkets, Large Hotels, Large Nightclubs, etc. should have automatic dialers fitted to their alarm systems, though staff should still be instructed to call emergency services and provide more information.

Did someone miss out on fees ??? aren't in house Fire staff allowed to be competent ??? Cover what up ???

It would be normal practice in most countries to call the fire brigade who are professionally trained to perform these tasks. Very risky to do this in house as anything could happen and the in house staff would not be equipped to handle it. Yep it was okay this time but it could have been much worse if the situation got out of control.

Seems like they did the correct thing at first and kudos for them to put the fire out and get the center evacuated................but they should have called the fire brigade in case the fire gets out of control and for inspection afterwards.

I recall almost 20 years ago a fire at Walking street.Firebrigade was called and turned up with a car with ONE fire fighter.

When asked why only him was there the answer was that the others would come when the World cup football finished.
