Thai Commerce Ministry To Use Computer System With Rice Pledging To Curb Corruption

Featured Replies

Hope that the new computer-system is sophisticated enough, to cope with different grades of Thai-rice, not-yet-spoiled/brown-and-rotting/totally-rancid/export-to-Africa-only grades for starters ! laugh.png

But it does seem strange that, in this modern day and age, they don't already keep their records on computer ? Could it be that they need a centralised-system, which would hopefully be less prone to local errors/manipulation, since locally-held records are proving less-than-reliable ? If so, who will audit the new central-computer system, who guards the guardians ? wink.png

I don't suppose they are going to let Thaksin write the specs, then bid and win the contract. Not like it would be the first time.

"The Department of Internal Trade Director-General expects this year’s off-season rice supply will stand at around 11 million tons"

One wonders how on earth this guy has come up with a figure of 11 million tons or, does he mean 11 million tonnes - don't suppose he would know the difference anyway?coffee1.gif

Perhaps not, but he should notice the significant difference from what he expects and what the U.N. experts expect Thailand to have as a mountain of rice its sitting on this year.

I hope they don't use counterfeit software. :P
