This is the advisory report on Thailand from the IIPA to the US Trade representative 8FEB2013 which does recommend that Thailand be moved to the 'Watch List':

http://www.iipa.com/...301THAILAND.PDF

Well I've read a lot of it and it does seem to suggest Thailand be moved to the Watch List. What I can't find is any sense of anything being done other than setting up new bodies and pledging to do things. The new bodies could just end up being jobs for friends plus empty promises. I did notice the police mentioned a lot. I don't have any real knowledge of this but from what I've read the police are often paid to turn a blind eye or are running it themselves. If this is true then I can't see ant reason for optimism.

That's more-or-less what the document says at the beginning

"Special 301 Recommendation: IIPA associations debated Thailand’s Special 301 ranking in light of what

appears to be an emerging political determination to take meaningful action to alter what have been long-standing

problems. Ultimately, they agreed to recommend that Thailand be moved to the Watch List for 2013 in recognition of

increased levels of cooperation and political direction. IIPA also recommends that USTR conduct an out-of-cycle

review (OCR) to ensure adequate progress, in particular, that the Royal Thai government robustly implements a

national plan in connection with the “Year of IP Protection” that it has announced, and that this be reflected in

enhanced enforcement and legislative reforms, including the prompt enactment and implementation of effective

legislation making it an offense to use (or attempt to use) an audiovisual recording device in a movie theater to make

or transmit a copy of an audiovisual work (i.e., so-called anti-camcording legislation).1"

Mind you, I'm somewhat surprised that this report has

appears to be an emerging political determination to take meaningful action to alter what have been long-standing problems.

Hardly something real solid to base anything on ermm.gif

The Thai politicians are just setting it up so they can be "very surprised" that they weren't taken off the Priority Watch List. But you never know, that boner that Obama got hugging Yingluck might have scored big in the White House.

These govenment idiots here create their own bullsh*t (same as fed to the populace daily)

and actually expect the US will believe it as well. I will stand corrected if the US upgrades

Thailand ... and then I will look for the "money trail".

Corruption is everywhere, the US is just a bit more sophisticated at it. JMO of course.

I'd be very surprised if Thailand was taken off the Watch List.

The US aren't stupid. This country is one giant IP infraction

Stranger things have happened.

"The US aren't stupid" whistling.gif

Oh yes they are. All one has to do is examine any time frame in the last 13 years and you will discover that the government of the US is clinically insane.

In the Netherlands brown envelopes were used a lot by services delivering pornographic tapes to people who's rather not have there neighbours know they'd ordered such. Mind you on topic those tapes which in this age and time are more likely to be distributed on DVD or BlueRay seems a number one sales hit along the 'walking streets' of Bangkok, Pattaya, CM, etc., etc.

One may be surprised why the US of A doesn't like their products to be so popular rolleyes.gif
