So 1 guy in here is supporting an 11yo girl in the sex industry cos she might get her legs blown off otherwise in Cambo.

They'll use any ol excuse in the book won't they...

I guess that would then make the 65 year old Swede Child Rapists a hero on a mission to save children in under developed nation.

Actually Nisa I think he is defending the child and not supporting the guy who thinks she is better off being a prostitute.

Maybe unrelated to the OP....but IMO Soi Cowboy should be bulldozed anyway!

Why? I think that it is time prostitution was debated in the highest levels of law and politics in the country. The world is changing and prostitution provides the only avenue for some men to get what they need (if you are a woman, I will explain to you that as a young man; sex is a need for my mental well being).

It is also a good way for someone without any hope in life to get money and get a good education - my best friend did this, she was born into a family without a floor or power in Sakhon Nakhon and now has a university degree. She wasn't going to be able to pay for that with a low end job paying a few thousand baht a month. She is a normal person, and I would trust her with my life.

Prostitution is legal in my country, which is great, because some women use sex here to use men and gain far more than they give. Prostitution means both parties know what they are giving for what they need - which says a lot more than some relationships with western women IMO.

I imagine people can connect the dots between anything but having consensual sex with another adult (paid or otherwise) has absolutely nothing to do with wanting to or having actual sex with a child paid or otherwise. I would think there would be more correlation between being drunk and not making the same decisions you might make when sober if there is an underlying attraction to children. Plus drinking does have an effect on society and can see people having a valid complaint that drunks kill and injure innocent people on the road but just seems a bit much for others to want to apply their values on others to say two (or even more) people cannot get together to have sex if they are adults regardless of the reasons they choose to have consensual sex.

It really shocking, but I remember from Cambodia 10 years ago getting off a bus in PP, the waiting tuk tuk driver (or equ) asked if I like young girls , I said of course, what do I look gay or something? , he then said he could take me to a place with 13 year old girls.. I was rather shocked coz for me a young girl I imagined to be 18 -20 or something.. a few days later after recovering from a bout of food poisening I was bored and wanted to find the equivelant of Sukumvit rd; bars, girls, lights, action, etc. so I asked a driver to take me somewhere I could get a drink with some girls ... he drove about 45 minutes down dusty roads to a run down street lined with tin sheds a real shanty town looking place, and said we're her. I looked around and there were no bars. just a bunch of really dirty smelly girls.. I told the driver that he had it all wrong this is not what I wanted . Anyway after the dusty drive i asked for a beer for me and him before heading back. the Mamasun asked if I liked anything I saw , . I mean these girls really stank... i said no... she said wait a minute I get something special drove off and came back with 3 or 4 young girls ,, I don't know how old they were,, i mean way, way pre- pubescent maybe 10, maybe younger.... I was totally shocked and all I could say was 'what ?are these girls virgins? She no ,, if you want vigins I can get for you.. any way I got out of there as fast as I could.....

So I dont know what the moral of this story is.. it seemed to me that the kids were being offered by their own families who were extremly poor , to the mamasuns to help put food on the table.... I dont know for sure. Is it a inevitable concequence of povety , bad social upbringing or exploitation from pimps?. or a bit of everything probably ... either way I have never noticed any such stuff going on in Thailand , obviously it goes on everywhere to some extent deep under ground.....and hidden from the normal population. . but tackling poverty might be as an important a place to start to get rid of this industry...

Depressing indeed. Directly relevant to this Cambodian experience is the story and work of Somaly Mam, who was a child sex-worker there, but eventually got free and established a tremendous charity to rescue girls. In my opinion, her book should be compulsory reading for every visitor to Asia (though it brought me to tears) --->

OK but it is a small step for a girl to be sold into the sex trade as a means of support for the whole family. Another small step to sell the even younger ones - because they command a higher price?

It is a vicious, never ending circle.

Prostitution should be legalised and regulated.

It should be a recognised job with taxes to be paid......

Prostution is the oldest profession and cannot be stopped, so deal with it.

This topic isn't about prostitution it is about an 11 yr old girl. Pedophillia and adult prostitution are two differnet things entirely.

Sad when greed, the lack of basic moral standards and a sick mind get together. As for the guy, they should lock him up and give photos of his own siblings and all youngsters in his family to his fellow paedophile inmates...

Your suggestion that his own siblings and all the youngsters in his family, all totally innocent of any wrongdoing, should now be abused puts you on his level, I hope you are ashamed of yourself, but that's the trouble with the "hang 'em high" brigade, their lust for vengeance gets out of hand.

Amen Cat.

Quotes got me again.

Changed my mind. you need really, really, really serious help and fast.

Sorry you don't understand the true situation, fortunately that's only your opinion. Might have been more enlightening if you had said something about a reason than just your opinion.

I fully understand the true situation as everyone else does including you unless you have an I Q of room temperature celsius. Some things are so outrageous they do not require a response and your last post is an example. But I will make an exception this time. This pedo arranged to have an eleven year old girl brought to his hotel room. Now obviously you think that is a proper thing to do. Neither I or anyone else in their right mind would agree with this. And I say again if you really are posting your true feelings you need serious help.

Just as well we have morals crusaders like yourself on TV - I dont know how I'd live my life without your guidance.......

Most of us love Thailand for the fact that it is NOT a nanny state : once that changes, it would be almost impossible to change it back. Think long and hard before you ask the Thai to start bulldozing nightlife precincts.

Ask Chuwit - he will bulldoze a nightlife precinct if you want...

What should happen is that people like you, who advocate this behavior, should be locked up. You are a low life, as bad as these women. Why would you want to subject innocent people to this treatment. You are one sick individual.

How is he defending the child by advocating an adult selling her to a 65-year old man to be raped? No healthy minded 11-year wants to be in this position and it is ridiculous to say her choice is to have her legs blown off in Cambodia or choose a life of being raped by old men. Any 11-year old who believes her best choice in life is to have sex with disgusting old men is in need of saving and not support of such a decision and anyone who can read anything into this story that she wanted this or wasn't be sold into this for the adult to profit is going to great lengths to justify this incident as being anything less than sick and horrible.

I agree with you Nisa 100% but I do not think Diddums was trying to justify it. Maybe I sensed a hint of sarcasm on his/her behalf.

Actually I usually like and admire your responses on TV Mr.Worldwide. But when it comes to soi Cowboy I have to disagree. In fact I partake regularly in the the nightlife precincts all over Thailand. However my experiences on soi Cowboy have always been less then desirable. In fact completely opposite from similar style precincts just a few blocks away. My money has never been well spent there, as it has in other nightlife areas. Maybe it's a personal thing with me, but I'll always pass on soi Cowboy when seeking some extracurricular fun. I have heard similar experiences from many others that have gone there as well. It just isn't what it used to be.

By no means do I want the edgy side of Thailands adult nightlife to go away. But aside from the Chinese and Japanese businessmen....I doubt soi Cowboy would really be missed much.

I have been going there since I was 19 years old. My girlfriend knows I go there and I consider myself someone of integrity and do not do "take out".

Soi Cowboy is the only western orientated go go bar I can go to without some Mamasan trying to force me to take home some rather large girl, who is more interested in talking to her friends on facebook and telling me how beautiful she is than going with me in the first place.

Some of the staff at Tilac bar are really wonderful, the girls that have been there for many years sit with me and we talk about their families, about their lives - they are real people and if you put in the effort you can find some real friendships.

My point is each person sees different things in different places - and places like Nana, Cowboy, Patpong, Suttisan, and Soi Twilight are designed specifically to cater to the whole market.

What will Thais do for money and the greed of money, its nothing to do with poverty its just all to do with greed, many people around the world live in abject poverty and cope with it they don’t sell children for sex .

I missed the part in this story of a Thai selling their child into sex. The story I read is about a Cambodian child with a Cambodian women trying to profit from a Swede who wanted to rape a child. Only mention of a Thai in this story is the women who acted as an interpreter and the authorities who arrested them and rescued the child.

I hope you are right. I am not tracking the posters who are saying what but there is one poster who appears to have had a number of posts deleted because of his clear advocating of children being raped for money and I assumed this was the same poster based on the language and tone.

Edit: glancing back I see it was not Diddums making the comments and appreciate your heads-up and apologize to Diddums for missing what was almost surely sarcasm but it sounded just like a serious comments the other poster was making to advocate a child being in the sex industry.

Stop thinking pedophile, don't waste time on them. You have now incarcerated an 11 year old girl and destroyed her chances because you don't understand her desperation. Yeah she should have signed up at the job center eh?

I was married at 19--she was 18 and I went to work the day I was 15. That will be illegal one day.

If I wrote to the Government and said hey Ille take that girl and school her and teach her English ---I would be a pedophile right!!!

You never seen stupid laws before.

Who said the Swede wanted her for sex? Who said the girl was forced? Who said the Swede was told how old she was on the phone?

Assumptions,--- when the only thing is the incarcerated crying girl.

You guys that cant think anything but Pedophiles are the ones that are frightening me. You cant even look at a young girl these days because of you guys.

. Bouncing a girl on your knee these days is porn, leave off.

And how old is your "girl friend". You're not fooling anyone.

I thought long and hard about it and I agree with BKS22 - bull doze them down. How hard up do you have to be to go to some place like Soi Cowboy? losers

A lot of posters keep bringing up poverty as an excuse. What is actual poverty anyways? not having an iPhone 5 yet? It's a real joke here in Thailand when You have a rood over your head, mobile phones, a motorbike, clothes etc but people still call you poor. I saw real poverty in India. As far as what I have seen here over the past 10 years I would consider even the poorest of Thais in pretty good shape. Guarantee these two mamasans had iphones.
