I wish to do a bit of tinkering on my car and require some equipment to do so. I live in Hua Hin and availability seems non existant in this area.

Where in BKK would you suggest I go to purchase, Trolley Jack, Car Stands, Compressor, Rattle Gun and various other mechanical tools.

Cheers

Worachak near Chnatown for the best of a fairly poor selection.

There are many Automotive related businesses there specialising in Hand tools and workshop equipment.

Have a good look around the area before purchasing as the best suppliers are hidden in the back streets. Any local will point you in the right direction once you are there.

"The best if not the cheapest tool shop is on Sukumvit soi.71 .http://www.veerasiamhardware.com/VeeraSiamHardware/tabid/94/Default.aspx

So go to Klong Tom and buy cheap generic items like jacks and jack stands and maybe even the compressor buy the items for which quality is important from Veerasiam."

You are 100% correct and I am a regular customer at this store.

Most forum members/readers will be shocked at the prices though.

Thank you fellas, I have direction. Looks like Veerasiam should do the trick.

Woodsie, is your inference that the products are cheap or expensive (dont mind paying for quality)??.

Most of the stuff I will be buying needs to be good/reasonable quality and most items are one time purchase only.

Thanks your help guys.

Veerasiam sell Snap-On tools, which are arguably the best on the planet, and priced accordingly.

For an idea on prices, visit the USA Snap-On website and add ~30% before converting to Baht: http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/catalog.asp?tool=all

I brought with me from the UK a very good valve spring compressor and a quite large bearing puller if anyone is interested.

VN, where abouts is Klong Tom??.

Approx

Any Taxi driver in BKK. Will drop you at the door. It fills the whole block more or less so what entrance you go in doesn't matter.

The streets around there also have tools but not so concentrated.

I was at Rong Klua market a few weeks back to buy items for the wifes shop and had time to look through the tool shops. They were quoting me 2900 baht for a 3.5 tonne mechanics jack, Chinese I would imaging, but I didn't buy until I found time to check around.

Not Bangkok area but in Ban Chang, about 40 kilometres east of Pattaya, there is place I've been to on the main road called RCA. They have a really good selection of genuine tools from well known manufacturers. Maybe worth a detour on your way to BKK. Socket sets from 10mm up to 100mm, spanners/combinations/open end /ring etc.

Sorry Topcroc,

I missed your post.

The products are first rate and as others have mentioned, Snap on is the best. Prices here are there times US and twice UK in my experience. If you want the good stuff though, you need to step up to the plate...........

It depends on your needs as well. If you're just doing the odd job around home, Klongtom will suffice. If you're used to good gear, Veerasiam is your only choice in TH. They also have plenty of European product, but unfortunately, no Stahlwillie which in my opinion is also on par with Snap On.

Actually there is quite a nice selection of quality, moderately priced Stanley tools at both Home Works and True Value stores..

Admin what is wrong with the site? I can't use any of the menu at the top when posting and also can't even sign out anymore, the text is not working properly either?

They also have Beta which is OK and they also have cheaper alternatives to most it depends on usage.
