Anybody have one? I've read some very good reviews. $299 in USA for the 16GB. That's 9,000 baht.

I'm planning on getting one soon.

Interested in Chiang Mai user's comments on this product.

I'm using the old original black and white model. Great to have tho, as I've loaded 1300 books into it, and never a worry about a supply while I'm here or travelling. 2nd hand books are far from cheap here as you've no doubt noticed.

If you're interested, we could meet up and download my lap top Kindle collection onto yr proposed new Kindle.

Beware of the models on sale ex USA, as many do not include power adapters, plugs or cover. I bought mine in Australia and it came with all I needed.

As for Kindle models, I think the one with the built-in lighting would be my next choice. No need for a bed lamp. No need for colour for books.

I saw it in Miami and was really tempted to get one ...however as I need to stick to my 1 hand carry policy for my 4 months travel I stick with my itouch 5 and HDMI cable for connections to the hotel TV

The specs look great and the color replication for magazines is stunning and HD video content

Anyone has a amazon prime account does this work in Thailand for movie streaming ?

Hey just a heads up on buying a Fire. I believe that the Amazon site warns customers that movies and music cannot be downloaded to the Kindle Fire outside the US. However you can still get books and magazines. So just make sure that you don't end up with a device whose best features you can't fully use. Look into it before pulling the trigger.

I did tried Amazon Prime on Roku ( a media streaming device) and my iphone4S before on True Internet. It worked with some tweaking. Mean I had to use a DNS service to "Fool" Amazon Prime to think that I am at US. That DNS service is called Unblock-us.com

This is the setting you need to do for a Kindle: http://support.unblock-us.com/customer/portal/articles/291583

For those who are unfamiliar with "DNS" -

Short for Domain Name System (or Service or Server), an Internet service that translates domain names into IP addresses. Because domain names are alphabetic, they're easier to remember. The Internet however, is really based on IP addresses. Every time you use a domain name, therefore, a DNS service must translate the name into the corresponding IP address. For example, the domain name www.example.com might translate to 198.105.232.4.

The DNS system is, in fact, its own network. If one DNS server doesn't know how to translate a particular domain name, it asks another one, and so on, until the correct IP address is returned.

Being tech challenged can any one tell me the difference between the fire and a regular Kindle.

$69 to $299 must be a lot. Can they both be read in broad daylight?

Heya HD

The kindle fire is in color and has a HD screen more for people to watch videos, pictures, play games and read a lot of magazines which look great in color

If its just a reader to read books the basic one will do

The battery power between the 2 is a huge difference
