My girlfriend of three years wants to visit the UK for a one month holiday this June. She is in employment and her boss has agreed to her taking one month off work and will write a letter to confirm this. She has over 200000B in her bank and owns a motorbike in her name. I am currently living at my mothers and this is where she will stay during her visit, I will write a letter to confirm this.

I have a couple of questions with regards the application, firstly is it better to say that we are just friends rather than girlfriend boyfriend? Secondly would my mother need to write a letter inviting her been as its her house? And finally due to the fact that she can fund the trip herself and therefore doesn't need sponsoring would I need to provide any bank statement copies etc?

If I've missed anything please advise, Thanks, Nick

I don't see why the relationship should work against you. It provides a reason for the visit. I would get a letter from your mother as having secure accommodation is another issue solved. If she actually is going to fund it, I wouldn't bother. It sounds like she won't have many outgoings anyway.

Hello a few questions ?

  1. 200,000 Baht what's origin of these funds?
  2. Does she have assets & ties to Thailand?
  3. Previous immigration history
  4. Length of relationship 3 years can you demonstrate this ?
  5. What is her background?

These are questions the processing eco will be asking ?

So a letter from my mother and a letter from me? Would it make a difference if it's hand written or type? And the letter from her employer, does it need translating into English? Thanks for your response!

I have a couple of questions with regards the application, firstly is it better to say that we are just friends rather than girlfriend boyfriend? No, be truthful.

Secondly would my mother need to write a letter inviting her been as its her house? Yes.

You are either sponsoring your girlfriend or you're not. My opinion is that you sponsor your girlfriend and keep it simple. You'll still have to provide your and your girlfriend's bank statements anyway.

Your GF needs to satisfy the ECO that she/you have sufficient funds for the holiday. They need to see evidence of the relationship and they need to be convinced that your GF will return.

A friend had to supply an invitation from his mother (as his GF was staying at the family home) together with photos of the house.

I recommend that you spend some time reading the threads on here as they contain some very useful information.

I am taking my GF for a holiday in the UK and she got her visa approved in 9 days.

She banks around 20000B each month and has done for as long as I've known her. Yes we can prove the length of our relationship, I have spent a lot of time living in Thailand during this period and have a Thai company, b visa and can speak Thai if this makes any difference.

makes no difference at all. This is not about you, it is ONLY about your GF. Others are only involved in proving their status as sponsors. It is about the UK authorities being convinced that she has a valid reason to visit, can support herself (or be supported in that time) AND has reasons to return to Thailand. Previous overseas trips (from which she has returned) are another plus factor.

Read it all here, a clear and informative website:- www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk

I (or rather my GF) submitted a folder comprising over 50 pages covering our 6 year relationship, copies of passport entries showing matching exit/entry stamps, photos of our time together, copies of my GF's chanotes, car and motorcy paperwork (evidencing reasons to return etc, etc).

Maybe include proof that your mother owns the place.

A friend's mother had to supply a copy of the Land Registry certificate.

Whilst I hate unnecessary, and voluminous, paperwork I believe it is a case of removing all opportunities for the ECO to say "no". In other words, make their job easier by providing as much relevant information/evidence as you can. .

I was in the same situation, staying at my mother's home in the UK. In my sponsership letter I told them this but never supplied a letter from my mother. I gave them permission to telephone her and gave the phone number but asked them to be careful and clear when they phone because my mother was over 90 and gets confused easy. They did not contact her and my girlfriend got the visa!

Thanks for all your help so far! One quick question, when applying online does my girlfriend have to use her email address or could mine be used? Thank

She can use any email address she likes, as long as she can access it.

As she is the one applying, it might be better if she used her own email address.

Regarding earlier replies to your questions, if your girlfriend is paying for her trip herself and can prove that it's affordable, there is absolutely no need for you to provide copies of your bank statements. Just think about it for a while, why would you need to do so?

Your girlfriend needs to satisfy the ECO that her proposed visit is genuine and affordable, and that on the balance of probabilities, she will leave the UK at the conclusion of her trip.

You speaking Thai has no bearing on the matter. It is all about her.

My wife stays at my mums, I get my mum to supply a letter of invitation, proof that my mum is a real person by means of her passport, and also a letter confirming my mother owns the property. This is not all necessary but I supply it.

Two last questions, the stamps in my passport prove the amount of time I've been in Thailand over the course of our relationship and been as I'll be in bkk with her do we need to make photo copies of my passport or can she just show them the real thing? Also can I go into the interview with her? Many thanks.

When she submits her application at the VAC it and all the supporting documents will be sent to the embassy for an entry clearance officer to decide on the application.

As foreigners are required by Thai law to carry their passports on their person at all times then you should submit photocopies of the relevant pages of your passport rather than the actual passport itself. You can self certify them "I (full name) certify that this is a true copy of British passport number 123456789, signed."

Usually, only applicants are allowed into the VAC, although you can wait outside for her, and it is highly unlikely she will be interviewed by the embassy. If she is, you wont be able to go with her.
