Retirement Visa

Featured Replies

I will be going to Korat immigration tomorrow to get my 1st retirement visa (was 50 in Jan) a

D would like to know from the experts here exact documentation I need to take. Could also get a marriage visa but believe it easier for the retirement. Currently on 2 month extension based on being marriedmtoma Thai.

Regards,

Tas

Copies of your passport data page, Non immigrant O visa, entry, extension and departure cards. Financial proof of bank account letter and passbook with copies or Embassy letter of income/copy. Have some proof of address and perhaps draw a map there (if wife blue book location use that and take marriage paperwork and wife first time just so they know she is aware of what you are doing - should make it easier). And the 1,900 baht fee and the TM.7 with 4x6cm current photo attached. Believe they will also want your phone number on back of that form (although no field for it). You might want to obtain a re-entry permit at the same time in case of emergency travel requirement.

I have used Korat Immigration a few times for retirement extension and usually in/out less than 30 minutes, very good service. Best to go early, they open at 8:30

also referring to Khorat immi (could be any other, though):

for renewing my annual retirement visa (60+) based on income evidence, do I always have to drag Missus along

or can I just go myself with all pertaining docs?

No need to take the Wife.

You can do it on your own.

"...for renewing my annual retirement visa (60+)..."

The age to qualify for a retirement extension (or visa) is 50, not 60.

Is it possible to go from a tourist Visa to an O Visa and then apply for a retirement extension ? I do have the finance in the Thai bank OK

Yes but you might have to change to the Non Imm O visa in Bangkok

Not all Immigration Offices will do it.

It is a two step process and may require 60 days before you can apply for the extension of stay. First apply for conversion to non immigrant O visa entry using financial proof (does not have to be seasoned) for 2,000 baht fee with 15 days or more remaining on current stay. They during last 30 days of that new 90 day entry apply in normal manner for one year retirement extension of stay with new financial paperwork and 1,900 baht fee. They might allow doing both at same time if qualified but that seems to happen less from recent reports (but perhaps people just have not had the money seasoned lately).

Korat should be able to do the conversion since it is a regional headquarters but I don't recall any posts of them doing it.
