Where Is Jim?

Has been suggested within this tread that the Isan forum should be splitted-up by regions. Not such a good idea, I think. TV has already many regional forums and they run as a sideline at best.

It's just a matter of fact that in rural-Thailand there is less to report (much less shootings than in BKK), but still, daily and ordinary happenings in rural Thailand can make good reading (= had no Chicken Bar-B-Q today, because the dogs got it beforehand, etc.etc.) There must be any number of stories like that every day and are not limited to a certain geografical aerea in the Isan.

Do as Jim does: Share those little daily live events and don't be shy about it.

Cheers.

I must have been near Jim's area today. Went up to Phu Hin Dang with an armed escort. It was amazing! Ridiculously hot hike though. The cliff had a strong cool breeze though. Rangers wouldn't let us up without the escort. post-103222-13620578246526_thumb.jpg

Should have PM me, you were probably a few kicks from me, could have taken you up for the night. No escort required, we take our own guns and as all know [Rambo] a farang with a Swiss army pocket knife can take on any 100 bad guys.

Everyone's family out here, if you are not law you are safe.

Plus you could have come to our place, stayed the night and brought me beer.

Have to say a wild bit of the world, that few have seen. Jim

It's life Jim, but not as they know it. If you think he's gone AWOL he'll be in the Farming Forum.

Edit I hadn't seen Bergen's post when i posted this.

Jim has just been banned! blink.png

So the Nordic warrior got there first! Good for you.

I got the notifications for both Isaan and farming forum postings that Jim made earlier by email. It appears that if you delete something that isn't "acceptable" regardless of validity, then you may as well delete the author.

I hope I have that wrong as when a major contributor to these forums is treated like that my own motivation to continue is challenged. I hope this is a publically explainable glitch and one of the mod's will fix it up. If not then silence could well be returned in kind by many of the members, including me.

I hope this is temporary, Jim is a great source of information in the farming area.

No way would I accept to be a moderator (not that anybody sane would want that).

Jim banned himself, knowing full well what he was doing.

Many of us are interested in more than local issues, this being Thailand you occasionally unearth unpleasant truths.

I don't wish to be banned just yet: however I find myself regularly amazed at the naivety of many posters that have been in Thailand for much longer than I have. (no reference to Isaanaussie). Cheers, drinking a beer also cheers Jim.

Anyone, regardless of their value to other posters are expected to follow the forum rules. Thai visa cannot afford to be put at risk. Thailand has very strict & harsh laws regarding defamation & slander. The rules are clear & posters are informed when their posts are removed but if they decide to ignore those warnings then they have to accept the consequences. Thaivisa is a free facility & all we ask of posters is they follow the rules.

I hope this shed a little more light & stops all further comment on moderation & the removal of certain posters.

Thanks

Maybe an unwise question but how long is the ban for or is it indefinite?

I was looking at some old posts the other day and there were so many contributors who are banned now who used to contribute worthwhile posts . We all say things that in the heat of the moment that may be un-diplomatic or even worse, truthful , but ........................... ? .

Perhaps i should also read the forum rules again.

Boo,

Thanks for the clarification. Never a doubt on the rules and roles of and in the forum. But it does leave me with one concern, what if certain statements made are in fact the truth and not slanderous? Isnt this free facility a place where members can exchange experiences and perhaps offer the odd word of warning?

Being true or not makes no difference, it is irrelevant.

If you are seen as damaging someone's business you can be sued for defamation.

Really? Truth is irrelevant? Well then help me out here, surely the character and reputation of the witnesses counts for something in such cases? I can't believe that because Jim spent so many years in prison as a corrections officer, he would be treated the same as someone convicted of a serious crime.

Please remember the forum rules.

Just let it be known that members, particularly long standing members, don't get banned for nothing.

Which rule did he break that got him banned? I just reviewed the rules again.

I didn't see the post(s). I don't know what happened.

Unlike the West, defamation is a crime in LOS, punishable by prison, so be careful.

Like the West, truth is an absolute defense against defamation. In Thailand, a reasonable belief it is truth is also a defense.

Who needs the hassle?

Like so many others, it's hard for me to believe that someone as valuable to the forums as Jim would be gone for good without warning. I hope it's temporary.

TV will end up with only Mods and no members if this keeps up ..what a cop out !! what happened to freedom of speech ?

Don't get me wrong - freedom of speech comes with responsibilities. I also accept that (in almost all aspects of life) it is necessary to have rules.

What I will always have difficulty with is anything that prevents discussion of such rules.
