JLCrab
Note: "Section 5 of the Liquors Act (1950) states that it is illegal for anyone to brew their own alcohol, or even have the equipment to do so. The maximum penalty for contravention of this section of the Act is six months in jail, or a fine of 5,000 baht, or both.If the offender sells the liquour, the maximum penalty rises to a year in jail or a 10,000 baht fine, or both. Those are the maximum penalties and can be imposed for making and / or selling distilled alcohol (spirits). The maximum penalties for brewing or fermenting alcohol - wine or beer, for example - are lower: 200 baht for making it and 5,000 baht for selling it.'Source: Payoon Poolsuwan - Phuket Excise Office -- so if you like to play chemistry set at home, make sure there is no one mad at you or looking to settle a grudge. Tell that to every household in my village, That rotgut rice whisk is made in half the homes here. I am sure what you say is true, but you can't drive here without a license either. JLCrab
All I said was don't do it and then (especially as a farang) have someone get mad at you and go looking for a way to even the score .. and everyone in your village probably knows that as well. Cuban
Our local Tesco-Lotus sell Ginger Beer, but does have a unique "Thai" variant flavour, akin to cleaning fluid, but it's OK. Yeast is sold as well, although I buy from a Thai wholesaler for about 150 Baht for 500g, it's the French brand SAF (Sometimes Fermipan) works well.
