Tourism Cha-am Beach May Allow Booze on Buddhist Holy Days
I bet it doesn't fly. Cha-am is a predominately Thai beach and beach area. Hua Hin is the best candidate for foreign tourist who this change in the law would be targeting. Well? Unless Cha-am is TARGETING more foreigners by opening up alcohol sales during Buddhist holidays. Really - if you're a Buddhist and choose not to drink on those holidays, it should be up to you. Typical Yank - I hate government overreach. Like I don't drink during Buddhist Lent - but? THAT'S MY CHOICE! No one with a badge is forcing me to refrain. That's the way it should be, especially in a country where maybe 2% of the foreign tourists for the West are Buddhists. Yes. From the original Pali: Surāmerayamajjapamādaṭṭhānā veramaṇī sikkhāpadaṃ samādiyāmi."This translates to: "I undertake the training rule to abstain from fermented and distilled liquors which cause intoxication and heedlessness." -

My Bangkok Bank experience of recent
I got a new phone not long ago transferred the app but couldn't get it to work on my new phone. I went down to my branch of Bangkok Bank here in Pattaya with only my passport and ask if they could help me. I was concerned with all of the account freezing and everything else that's been going on but I needed this app because I use it for everything so I needed it on my new phone. She helped me install it and then told me I needed to go through facial recognition which took them about 20 times before it finally worked but they were patient and I needed it so I waited it out. I then asked her about the accounts being frozen and what have you she checked to make sure that my passport number matched my documents that they have on file. She then told me that my account was not flagged for review. Although I can't be sure I'm guessing that men that they needed nothing else for me to continue using my account. I'm not silly enough to think that I'm out of the woods every morning when I have coffee I scan to pay and wonder if this is going to be the day that I've got to go through what everybody else has went through. There must be certain criteria they look for I'm clueless. I have had my account since 2002 and I opened it at the branch that I dealt with recently not sure the length of the account has anything to do with it or not but for now I'm safe I guess what a mess for those having accounts Frozen and no access to their funds for a number of days. -

Report Dream Crushed: British Expats’ Thai Retirement Nightmare
Mine and the wife's situation is similar to yours, she wouldn't be able to get any of my investments if I die before her because they're in the US and she's not a US citizen. My broker advised me to form a trust--which I did, and also the lawyer I dealt with was willing--for a fee, to sell ALL assets in the US and transfer the funds to my wife's Thai bank account. My broker told me prior to forming the trust, that since she's not a US citizen the accounts would be frozen and more than likely end up going to the government.......something I definitely don't want to happen. I went the lawyer route because I don't have any relatives that could help with this. -

Road Rage (Foreigner Style)
I deal with situations like this almost daily here in Isaan — and often much worse. Honestly, I doubt I’d still be alive if I honked every time someone pulled out from a side road without looking. Instead, I’ve learned to be extra cautious whenever I see traffic coming from a secondary road. It’s not my job to teach people here how to drive properly, and it would be foolish to assume that role. My only concern is getting to my destination safely. If that means adapting to drivers who don’t follow the rules — so be it. -
