August 26, 2025Aug 26 Popular Post I got a new phone not long ago transferred the app but couldn't get it to work on my new phone. I went down to my branch of Bangkok Bank here in Pattaya with only my passport and ask if they could help me. I was concerned with all of the account freezing and everything else that's been going on but I needed this app because I use it for everything so I needed it on my new phone. She helped me install it and then told me I needed to go through facial recognition which took them about 20 times before it finally worked but they were patient and I needed it so I waited it out. I then asked her about the accounts being frozen and what have you she checked to make sure that my passport number matched my documents that they have on file. She then told me that my account was not flagged for review. Although I can't be sure I'm guessing that men that they needed nothing else for me to continue using my account. I'm not silly enough to think that I'm out of the woods every morning when I have coffee I scan to pay and wonder if this is going to be the day that I've got to go through what everybody else has went through. There must be certain criteria they look for I'm clueless. I have had my account since 2002 and I opened it at the branch that I dealt with recently not sure the length of the account has anything to do with it or not but for now I'm safe I guess what a mess for those having accounts Frozen and no access to their funds for a number of days.
August 26, 2025Aug 26 Popular Post It seems that most of the reports of frozen accounts are from people who opened their accounts while on short-term visas or visa-exempt. You're probably safe... Have a good day...

What type of visa (or visa exempt stamp) did you have when you opened your account and have you since switched to another visa type that they have a record of? I opened my account with a work permit in 2007, but in 2014 they “moved” my account to another branch in Bangkok in a totally different part of the city when I went to the other branch to get a new debit card. I am American so I filled out the corresponding tax paperwork, but at the time I only had a visa exempt entry stamp. Anyway, good to hear they didn’t scrutinize you but I am also worried that one day the app will send me that dreaded message.

I opened that account on a 30-day Visa exempt. Walked into the branch with a business card from the hotel I was staying at my passport and 5000 baht and walked out with a passbook and a account. Then after I moved here a couple of years then after I moved here a couple of years later I switched over to the retirement extension. A year later I was on a business Visa with a work permit for many years and the last few years I've been back on the retirement Visa.
August 26, 2025Aug 26 Author Also interestingly enough I just read on the stickman weekly column that he has not gotten any reports from any of his friends or anybody else of their account being frozen in Bangkok. Saying it seems like it's all on accounts that basically have been opened up in Pattaya. Has anybody here had their account Frozen that was opened in Bangkok?

In my experience that's as essential as your passport in conducting any business with Bangkok Bank. 7 hours ago, hereforgood said: I'm not silly enough to think that I'm out of the woods every morning when I have coffee I scan to pay and wonder if this is going to be the day that I've got to go through what everybody else has went through. Suspect that you're at greater risk of the app deciding to pack up on you when you need to make a payment for coffee!

Same here, all the frozen account reports I've seen so far are concerning accounts that were opened in Pattaya within the last few years. I think some people mix it up with the mobile phone number ID matching exercise, which affects accounts opened elsewhere as well.

August 26, 2025Aug 26 32 minutes ago, it is what it is said: thought he disappeared years ago when he realised no one was daft enough to buy his site at the over inflated price he assumed it was worth. I heard he sold it for something like 50k baht. Then something happened to that guy who left Thailand and another guy started writing it. You can see how it has changed and its definitely not the same guy writing it. Its changed a few times.

You're probably safe... Have a good day... I was visa exempt when I opened mine in 2013 and have had mutiple phone numbers but never used mobile / remote /online banking. I am back in Canada now and wrote them about all the freezing of accounts etc, and they set up a phone call with me last week. A few security questions and they said I was okay and nothing to worry about since I do not use any online/mobile banking at all and that was it.

I use Krungsri for 21y no problem.
September 1, 2025Sep 1 Facial (farcical) recognition by BB has never worked for me. Went to a branch to rectify but it still didn't work for me or the foreigner with the same problem in front of me. Strangely it works for my UK bank despite never visiting that branch???
