bottom line: Thaksin Shinawatra was duly elected and illegally overthrown. Have a nice day.

Not really

Thanksin Shinawatra was duly elected, then stepped down, then failed in his attempts to run an election mostly because he tried to have the election done outside of the election laws, then he decided to become 'caretaker prime minister' effectively holding onto the post illegally, then was overthrown.

While you were typing the illegally word you forgot one. "Overthrown Illegally."

Thaksin the Martyr, flying around the world in his private jet, living the high live and skyping in to tell what he wants to have done while remaining is 'self-exile'. Obviously no problem to some democracy minded people here.

Economy is on track. Yingluck is doing a great job with other international leaders being photographed smiling. Credit rating agencies are smiling and foreign investors are smiling. How long do you think before he comes back? A year maybe two.

It's about the economy stupid. Is a phrase that has been spoken many times by many political pundits and the next election will tell the tale even more than the last. No body cares if the direction comes from Dubai or Dubuque. It's about the economy stupid.

My dear CMK, please read the topic post again. It's not about the economy it's about Thaksin, stupid.rolleyes.gif

The topic is a fugitive criminal, an unelected elite, who skypes in to tell the PM and her cabinet how he wants his country run.

Dear Rubi,

No one cares if the instructions for the management of the government are skyped from Dubai as long as the economy is tracking nicely along. If fact most countries would trade a triple dip recession for a booming economy if the instructions are skyped from anyone anywhere. smile.png

The coup was illegal as all coups are in principle. The overthrow wasn't an overthrow as the suspect was no longer officially in that position. It was like epelling a no longer welcome visitor.

Anyway, let's go back to the real topic of Thaksin bashing till he's really a martyr rolleyes.gif

My dear CMK, thank you for explaining your views on how countries and economies should be run.

In the mean time I'll be back on topic with our martyr living in high luxury skyping orders on running his country. Obviously that's OK to some here, especially the democracy minded lot rolleyes.gif

During the Skype meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung's
face dropped when Thaksin criticised his anti-drug measures saying they
were not good enough. "During my time, I had the police run a tight
ring; there was checking and rehabilitation so they do not use or sell
drugs again,'' he said.

I think this a bit unfair for Thaksin to "Skype spank" Chalerm this way. After all, ordering the murder of 2500+ people and expecting Chalerm to keep up with that, is a tough row to hoe.

Especially with the charging of Abhisit/Suthep for ordering the army to cleanup, I'm sure Dept. PM pol. Captain Chalerm would like to be a wee bit more carefull. Still our skyping hero only 'advises' and the real PM tells her cabinet rolleyes.gif

whistling.gif This information was in the "Other Thai English Language newspaper" ... the one we are not able to quote on ThaiVisa... yesterday,

Now that the Nation has published the same basic article, I guess I can say I happened to read the front page article in the "other" nespaper yesterday morning.

The hotel I'm staying in has BOTH English language newpapers available to read for hotel guests.

I don't agree with the word martyr. It has to be said that the democrats and their supporters have played their hand very poorly by concentrating on Taksin, when they would have been better served in delivering policies aimed at bettering the lives of the core support for taksin, thereby marginalising his influence and nullifying his political clout. The democrats missed the opportunity when in power, they did little to appease the rural poor, who, whether misguided or not, obviously see taksin as someone intent on changing the Thai way. The democrats, though, were naively preoccupied with taksin and maintaining the old status quo for the elite.

with constant obstruction for obstruction's sake by the Pheu Thai in opposition, with nice coalition partners (one of which moved seamlesly to the new government including keeping ministers on the same position), with bands of terrorists roaming around, it's a miracle that the Abhisit government found time to do anything at all.

Anyway, the topic of a fugitive criminal skyping in to tell the PM and her cabinet how to run his country doesn't seem to offend posters here too much. Obviously Thailand is once more a prime example to all others about how things should be done in this modern world and time

I was running a business in the US when Carter was the President. A Saint of a man but the interest rate went up to 18% and my business went bust as a result. Who really cares? I want a guy who can grow the economy. I can deal with the rest.

So thousands of extra judicial killings, rampant corruption and self interest, nepotism, to name a few, are acceptable so long as the economy grows?

Don't want to burst your bubble but you got those things one way or the other; might as well have them with a growing economy.

> He told the government to clearly point out to the public that they
would benefit from the country's infrastructure development, for which
the government needs loans.

I'm sure he knows a few entities willing to provide that loan.

> "The Democrats will definitely stage an all-out war against the move to
get the loan. They are attacking us with judo-like strategies while we
do not know how to defend ourselves. We must have knowledge as our
weapon," he said.

So says the man who appoints people like Jatuporn and Arisman to positions of leadership. laugh.png

This man remotely controls from wherever his billions fly him. The Thais know it, ever country knows it. Everyday people bitch about him but who's gonna stop him?

It takes a while, but as Silvio Berlusconi slowly feels the pressure, Thaksin will do to, eventually when democracy loving red-shirts will rise against this unelected elite billionairthumbsup.gif

Yes I imagine his influence will come to a halt one day.

Just wondering how many more billions the 'S' family will suck out of their country before the reds are out of fashion.

Surely this revelation should draw the wrath of the relevant bodies as it is crystal clear that this current maladministration is being manipulated by the puppet master for his and his family and their brown nosing acolytes benefit alone.

The people of Thailand do not matter nor does the sovereign state of Thailand.

All this hypocrisy is-emanating from a political collection of a motley gang of self serving corrupt unprincipled neer do wells.

Perhaps if the relevant departments viewed the big picture this malevolent maladministration would be removed from the scene and the greater majority of the gang banned from political involvement for life..

Now if this was to happen perhaps that small sapling called ''Democracy,'' instead of being crushed underfoot by Thaksin and his family and their brown nosing acolytes might well have a chance to grow into a strong full grown Democracy tree that will indeed bear the ripe fruit of a full democratic society for Thailand and its peoples..

One ,or perhaps I should say the greater majority of us can but live in hope of democracy thriving its Thaksin and the P.T.P. (Parasites and Ticks Party) aphid attack pains on its tender shoots..

I would love to hear Yingluck talk her way out of this.

Yingluck’s House of White Lies

I really don't think that she worries what anyone thinks...she can blatantly declare that she's the "real" PM....(keeps the masses quiet for a while).

The Shinawatras are a rising to dynasty level in Thailand and the region...the majority of the population either don't know, don't understand or don't care, (given that many would not access the media other than a quick read while downing an M150), what's happening to their country.

They're also too occupied, trying to make a living to consider the situation.

Yingluck is going to be a major player in this massive family wealth building......it would appear that she's quite content to play this role.....albeit embarrassing for her sometimes.... but the end game is the family.

Fellow commentators please note:- The Leaders of the Asian comunitity are not laughing at Thailand any more. When mentioning Thailand's views during stategic converations with Asian allies, be they politicians or lieutenants of industry, you may note that everyone is listening intently. Not a smile in the room!

The President of the United States and the President of the Peoples Republic of China both had long and detailed meetings with Yingluck. Why do you think they did that? Just to piss off Thai Visa posters? Or the whole world including the two most powerful men in it are in on the charade? I'm sure you are correct and the US and Chinese Presidents just talked to Yingluck for a pathetic charade. cheesy.gif

I'm always suspicious of those who laugh at their own 'jokes'.

Any country's leader, president or PM, will receive Yingluck as a matter of protocol. Not quite a charade but more of a photo op. What they won't & don't do is meet an unelected fugitive. in fact he was virtually run out of the US by Thai-Americans who hadn't drunk the 'kool-aid' the last time he was there.

"She's in office. Abhisit and Suthep are not. She has world leaders at
her beck and call. She's part of the Shinawatra family. How bright
does she need to be? Probably bright enough to laugh at you." ?????????????? Not the sharpest knife in the drawer, are you mate ? Then again the Parasites and Ticks Party attracts fools like moths to a flame.

180 countries all crying for a visit from the President of China or the USA. Obama came to Thailand and Yingluck went to China. Big feather in her cap. Try and make it something it is not but no one cares if the strings are being pulled by an illegally deposed ex PM.

Sorry, I can't join your Parasites and Ticks Party. But, I'm sure it must be a lot of fun.

Maybe you can discuss how to use the 'MultiQuote' and 'Quote' buttons at your next meeting.

I believe the topic is about this:

Skype address shows Thaksin orders, Pheu Thai follows

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Former premier Thaksin Shinawatra's address to Pheu Thai Party via Skype on Monday once again proved that he is the top boss, something that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has been consistently denying, at least in public.

I don't believe it is about the coup. Stay on topic please.

It would appear the Shinawatras can't even be honest with each other so what chance do the Thai public have?
