Tigers In Thailand (Khao Sok, Kaeng Krachan)?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just read some disturbing news that there seem to be even less tigers in Thailand than I thought.

For instance, there are no tigers in Khao Sok national park anymore apparently, not for several decades already. And here I was, thinking there were still tigers in Khao Sok.

Even more disturbing is this. About 10 years ago I saw a documentary on Kaeng Krachan (think it was for the National Geographic Channel), and they did a tiger survey. Apparently Kaeng Krachan had a very healthy tiger population at that time. Last year they did another tiger survey in Kaeng Krachan, and they couldn't find a single tiger anymore. Does that mean there are no more tigers in Kaeng Krachan?

Anyone know any more about this?

Thanks!

John

Too bad they can't put a bounty out for all the Chinese buyers. A $1000 a head (removed from the body) should do it. It shouldn't be too hard to find who the buyers are. Those are evil, sick men who don't deserve to live.

Couldn't agree with you more. The poachers themselves usually earn what is basically just a pittance. It's the people higher up in the chain (the buyers/traders) who make the big bucks. They should be hunted down and put in jail for a long time, but that happens only very rarely, if ever.

Credit where credit is due, the Thais have deployed considerable resources in combatting the poachers. It just these poachers are one step ahead of the game with high profits. What the poachers and traders fail to realise is when these lovely creatures are gone, there gone. They are not just depleting a resource but forcing a animal into extintion doing it. Unfortunatly they will win and when there are no tigers, elephants, rhinos left in the world these criminals will just move onto to something else.

Steps are being taken, but we need to see executions as well as the poachers family being shown on television, there associates interogated and their homes and possesions seized. Perhaps then Thailand's Tigers will be safe.
