Best Place To Buy Cheapish But Good Spec Pcs In Bkk Or Pty?

I need to buy some desktop computers, mid range spec such as the following (minimum specs):

- CPU i5 2500K

- 8 GB RAM

- 128 GB SSD

- 1 TB HDD

- Nvidia GeForce GTX 550Ti

- 24 to 28 inch screen

+ decent keyboard, mouse, win 7 64 bit home premium or better

and of course optical drive and USB 3

I had a look at what the often recommended "invade IT" online shop offers, but the choice there is really poor.

At Tukcom, the vendors try to sell me for prices ranging from 45.000 to 65.000 baht something I can buy in Switzerland for 900 CHF ( = 28000 baht).

Any ideas where I can source such machines for a good price?

I don't mind if the machines are not 100% new, but they shouldn't be more than a year old.

EDIT: found busitek, which looks okay - but still a bit pricey.

Try the computer shop directly across from Foodland on Pattaya Klang. They are a "proper" shop with service/repair staff and I've bought several PC's there over the years. They're not more expensive than Tukcom, in fact most likely cheaper, and certainly better service.

However their service is good and they are the oldest computer shop in pattaya, Wattana is also considered to be the most expensive in Pattaya.

ugh... most expensive in Pattaya, LOL.

But thanks, will pay Wattana a visit anyway to see what they have to say.

Maybe I'll ask them to just match the price of the competition.

So far, I've found JIB computer to be the cheapest and I've worked out the following config:

intel Core i5 - 3470

Mainboard (2 banks, SATA3, USB3, PCIe)

8GB DDR3 RAM 1600MHz

Radeon HD7770 OC 1GB DDR5

1TB SATA 3 HDD

SSD 120GB SATA 3

CASE

550W POWER

Optical drive

24" monitor

win7 HP 64 bit

keyboard + mouse

Computes to about 38000 baht on JIB pricelist.

and meanwhile, I can buy the same configuration in Switzerland for 28000 baht, except it's powered by 16 GB RAM and a AMD FX8 octocore @ 4.2 GHz... *cry*

Bought my PC at Tuk Com (Pattaya), 2nd or 3rd floor in the corner - shop called Pattaya4You. Always packed with many people and they offer everybody who visits theirs shop free drinks (coca cola). They speak good English, good service, never a problem is your PC's fails, if it is something very small they don't even charge you!

They generally are.

Just about every factory made item, even ones made in Thailand and including processed food, costs far more than it should here. Nothing new about that.

I just buy as little as possible here and get as much as possible from farangland.

Jedicool.com and TKcom99.com are both enthusiast shops in Pantip Plaza in BKK. They lean more toward the "cutting edge" but have a good range of 1st quality components and will build to your specs. I have dealt with them for some years now and find them reliable and fair. JIB is OK but not as selective on their components.

I use Newegg in USA as my price reference and find that Thai prices for most mainstream components are 10-30% higher. But USA is far away and I am here. Kao gaeng kai costs about US$5.00 in New York but less than $1 here.

Thank you all for the advice.

Another thing I'm puzzled about is why there are practically no screens with 1920x1200 resolution, they all have just 1920x1080

:-/

hmmm....

I guess I'll cut the monitor to 23" and save 2000 baht more, so we are at 36000 baht.

JIB http://www.jib.co.th/

hardware house: http://www.hwhinter.com

are also good shops. I wouldn't buy at Busitek. they sold me once a bad DVD burner (at still expensive than) and refused to replace it when it didn't work.

(couldn't read 90% CDs that could be read by any other burner), while I never had problems with warranty from JIB and HWHouse

ok, I finally bought a computer.

Went to see Wattana first, seems indeed to be a good shop, but they mostly sell low-spec brand stuff (HP).

So I went to JIB, made some more cost cuts, and the total was 32430 baht inkl. building.

oh well...

I'll try to grab another pair of PCs in Switzerland on my next visit there, with a pair of decent screens, i.e. WUXGA (1920 x 1200).
