Mobile Coverage On Koh Lipe?

Featured Replies

AIS coverage map is useless. And the helpful employees at DTAC said they don't have coverage on Koh Lipe.

Anyone know first hand if there is 3G coverage on Koh Lipe and with which carriers? If not, which has the fastest Edge?

Also any recommendations on activities?

Thanks!

@mr3cho

How fast would you say the 3G was on Koh Lipe? I was there in the spring of 2012 and was traveling with both AIS (voice+data) and True (data stick). True had none, as you mentioned, and AIS was EDGE and painfully slow. I believe this was due to the fact that the towers are a satellite uplink (high latency and low bandwidth).

I'm headed there again this spring and am looking for the best single 3G carrier that I can go with for a single device/plan instead of carrying two like last time. DTAC sounds to be your recommendation but tests I've seen online still seem to show that True has better overall coverage and far better 4G speeds.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated!
