Luckily she (the wife) is one of the non-retarded Thais and has almost less to do with the average Thai than I do. wink.png

What an incredibly racist post. You sound more retarded than the Thais you're accusing. Perhaps if we ever met your wife, we can assume that she's a "typical" retarded Thai.

I think you missed the sarcasm directed at the farang posters here, and not at the Thais. I highly doubt if Almera meant what was written literally.

Excuse me? This guy sounds like a card-carrying member of the KKK. For him to actually be married to someone of the race that he despises tells me he came to Thailand in desperation mode. Makes no sense at all that this dimwit is still in Thailand.

Seems like primary school is off for the day. rolleyes.gif

Thais are not a race... Thais do form Thai society and culture though. It is a highly entertaining and amusing society to sit back and observe, imo. Watching the average Thai go about their day the way they do is hilarious in most cases.

The great thing about a society and culture is that not everybody conforms to it.

When you meet someone who has all the positive aspects, and almost none of the negatives, then you've hit the jackpot.... Like I have. wink.png

Class over, or do I need to continue?

@ doji: Excellent post !clap2.gif

As for the many reasons to get irritated with Thais and their ways mentioned in a few posts here, why not live and let live. Makes life so much easier for all. I too wonder why, you need a calculator to subtract 10 from 20, but instead of rolling my eyes and shaking my head, I just let them do it and a thank you and a smile. Everyone happy! rolleyes.gif

I disagree with a lot of things going on here, but being a guest here I don't expect the Thais to adjust to me. Not meaning that I let them walk all over me (ask my staff), but trying to find a middlepath acceptable to both sides.

Judged by the strenght of the baht and Thailands creditrating, they must be doing something right ? Or is this just another lie, all part of a much bigger conspiracy ??w00t.gif

Best of both worlds. Get to live here in a great place, and when the government/Thai people do bizarre things, get to have a good laugh too. Also the excessive negativity here is somewhat the fault of TV, as they seem to search out inflammatory topics that reflect poorly on Thailand, thus stirring up responses among its members. More traffic=more money.....Sort of like poking a stick into an ant's nest.....

It's easy to start banging on about 'illiterate women from Nakhon Nowhere' - I wonder how many TVers would last a single day in a ricefield or on a construction site in Bangkok ? How about a week's worth of 12-hour shifts in a factory ? I actually have more respect for the ladies who pass me dressed from head to toe to protect them from the heat than the pampered princesses strutting around Emporium, but I guess its easy to sit in your Upper Suk condo and sling shit at 'half-retarded Thais'.

Your final sentence could make a fascinating thread in it's own right...

Lies ?, conspiracy ?..... in Thailand ? whistling.gif

Bigotry...???

Absolutely. One of the cornerstones of Thai society.

Life as a Cambodian or Burmese in Thailand, a situation not worth thinking about. sad.png

Truly. Maybe that's why myself and fellow Scots "haters 'r' us" seem to assimilate here more easily than most.

Having spent time in Cambodia, I can see why they go to Thailand, whatever the prejudice. Have to ask the Burma cadre here about life in Burma today, but I get the distinct impression that they also see Thailand as 'The Promised Land'. The Burmese kid sweeping up around the resort I stayed at in Koh Chang didnt look particularly thrilled with his lot in life, but they were giving him a roof over his head and food in his belly - how he got from Burma to Koh Chang is anyone's guess, but I'm sure there are many in Burma who didnt make it across the border.

You mean there are others who hold the same view?

I find that hard to believe.

Ah, I don't know. They get special 2 year work permits, access to health care and social services under the migrant labour scheme.

He didn't have any bruises due to constantly *ahem* 'falling over' as he is 'stupid Burmese'?

Thailand, the hub of respect and fair treatment for its poor menial immigrant workers.

I believe they also get lodging as my wife is arranging to hire a group as they are having a hard time finding Thai workers.

Do you mean the lodgings they give construction workers?

1. I rent a 3 bedroom 3 bathroom house in Phuket including a gardener two times a week, ADSL, 82 channel cable, 24 hour security, and a 50sqm swimming pool. The rent PER MONTH is roughly the same as I pay on a garage size business storage shed in Australia PER WEEK.

2. Vehicle registration in Australia is about 800 percent more expensive than here.

3. Utility costs are about 500 percent more expensive in OZ than there.

4. I bought chicken maryland pieces (thigh and drumstick) at Tesco this week for 39 baht a kilo.

5. Australia is currently run by a malevolent lesbian puppet...though that will change in the near future to a fascist midget.

6. And finally, here I have a lovely partner as well as two fun giks in their early twenties.

But despite all of this, I am leaving next year because of the BS I have to endure to maintain a long stay visa.

"But despite all this, I am leaving next year because of the BS I have to endure to maintain a long stay visa:

I'm courious what type of visa you are on. I have been on a reiterment visa for the past 15 years and I find the visa application process not only inexpensive but reasonably painless.

I don't hate 'Thailand'.

I just don't like Thai culture, society or the average Thai.

Which is why I'm perfectly happy having almost zero interaction with them while living here in a nice, pretty country.

It would be interesting to hear from the posters that "love Thailand" how long they've been here.

25 years and I prefer most Thais to many Westerners. In general, they are pretty easy to get along with.

Agree. It's all about integration.

It Europe people get upset about immigrants who refuse to integrate, build their own places of worship and disrespect the culture and traditions of the country to chose to live in.

I find TV very informative when it comes to visa issues, bank matters etc so I will continue to read posts, despite the fact that many of the regulars either have a bizarre sense of humor or they have limited their lives to bars and agogo places drinking western beers and junk food...

My money is on the second option and I find it sad that many westerners even today see themselves as an example for other cultures.

I think that Thai Immigration could do these haters a big favour by MANDATING that they leave the country at least once, every 12 months. Not just a border run and a night at the casino either. "The holder of this passport is prohibited from re-entering Thailand for 12 days from xx/xx/xxxx."

They would be doing the passport holder an immense favour IMHO as most of the haters just don't ever leave the bloody country and get all jaded and upset about absolutely nothing. So they don't enforce traffic laws, or respect you, or stock size 14 running shoes, or the politicians are like schoolkids.... why do you care?

OK, so your council estate back home is a rubbish tip full of dodgy slavic types and your mates make fun of your Thai wife in the pub. If you are on marriage or retirement extensions, you should consider using some of the 400k baht or 800k baht that you must have annually to fly somewhere different. Bali, Singapore, Maldives, Perth.... just anywhere. Take a bloody break, clear the sh!t goggles and come back refreshed.

Ah, I could live in Thailand and be very happy, if it wasn't for them rosy glassed wingers.

when a person has issues with a Thai or two, they tend to blame the whole race.

Agreed it can happen to anybody who goes to another country and has a unpleasant experience and then blames all the people of that country

If you turn the clock back to the time when tourism got going for the working class in Europe I can imagine if we had internet and forums like this what kind of things we would be

saying about each other just think.

English, Irish Scots. Welsh,German, Dutch, French Spanish etc etc

Its human nature.

The appropriate response to Thai positive or Thai neutral or Thai negative stories in the Thai news forum is to post funny photos and make sex and or buttocks jokes. It makes no difference the topic, unless the story includes criticism of the current government the response has to include potty humor, insults and butt jokes. For example, topic "Health Insurance for tourists" The response, " 1. Last week they said they want to "offer" health insurance to tourist. 2. This week they said we are going to shove this up your arse health insurance. 3. What is next week? 5000 baht hospital fee to remove it?

I started out thinking the average age on TV was somewhere around 60 - increasingly, I've revised that downward to about 16. Keep it up and we could be into negative figures by next week - how 'retarded' would that be, dudes ? Like, totally.

How old do you have to be when you can stop calling people dudes? wink.png

Interesting life decisions you choose to make.

You stack up a virtual paradise on one side and then give it all up because you cannot make a long stay visa. Why not just get a Non-O visa and travel every 90 days - you are in control and don't have to face any BS.

Because I have no intention to marry.

I am a self funded retiree who is well under the 50 year old age criteria for a retirement visa.

I am currently on an ED visa here in Phuket, however a raft of new requirements have just been imposed here to try an get rid of Russian white trash.
