You're right, Chippie, แน่นอน /nae norn/ is not the best translation for 'exactly.' It means 'for sure,' 'with certainty,' 'no doubt,' etc. As in 'I'm going to dislike this movie for sure.' ฉันต้องไม่ชอบหนังเรื่องนี้แน่นอน. You can also say just แน่ /nae/ or แน่ๆ /nae nae/ to emphasize your certainty.

As for 'exactly,' it depends on how you want to use it. If you're telling time, you would says ตรง /trong/ to mean it's *exactly* a certain time, like 3 o'clock on the dot.

For saying two things are "exactly alike," I hear two common colloquial words, เป๊ะ and more recently เด๊ะ. The phonetic transcription is a bit difficult, as both end with a glottal stop, but using a question mark to indicate that the transcription would be /pe?/ or /de?/ (with a high tone).

So if you said เหมือนกันเด๊ะ /meuan kan de?/ it means "exactly the same, identical". You could use this to say you were thinking exactly the same thing, or that someone you know looks *exactly* like Tom Cruise, whatever you want. You can throw เลย /loey/ on the end to further emphasize it, too. เหมือนกันเป๊ะเลย!

As for the exclamation, "Exactly!" like when someone says something you want to emphatically agree with, I would suggest นั่นแหละ /nan lae?/.

I suggest 'muean kan thii diaow' which is what I have heard Thai people say - 'It's not exactly the same' - 'mai muean kan thii diaow'.

Agree with Rikker about usage of 'nan lae' - 'Exactly!' or 'That's exactly it!' in response to somebody else's statement. (Also 'nan na si!'.)

I think เด๊ะ comes from, and is a reduced form of the particle ดิ, which in turn is a more colloquial form of สิ/ซิ. These particles can be used for denoting emphasis eg ชอบซิ - I like it! etc

To be a bit retentive, it should be "koh nan lae." What ever happened to "thuuk tong?"

ถูกต้อง works for "Exactly" in a situation where one is looking for an answer, it seems. Like, "What is the GDP of Thailand?" and someone answers correctly, I can't think of any other translation for "Exactly!" besides ถูกต้อง or variations thereon. So there's another translation.

Install Firefox, then: View, text size, increase.

Sorry! I hadn't realised that adjusting text size was something that worked for Thai Visa on Firefox but not Internet Explorer 6.0. I had assumed that the problem had been fixed when the server software was changed.

You can also add the present tense modifier อยู่แล้ว to แน่นอน to give the feeling that the "exactness" is happening right now. I hear this quite often.

As it happens the size of the text in the signature cannot be changed, however the text in the post can (even thai text )
