Hi, I have been reading this website the last few days and its making me even more confused.

If anyone has any ideas PLEASE point me in the right direction.

My situation. I am 59 yrs old ,single male with an Australian and US citizenship. My plan is to move to Bangkok

in a month (just sold my business in Australia). I have taught ESL before in Taiwan and have my

TEFL Certificate so plan on teaching for a few years until my US Social Security kicks in. That will

give me enough money to retire somewhere in Thailand.

I have been to Thailand many times and know I will love it and enjoy my time, I am just ignorant

as far as what I need to make this transition easier and hasslefree. Thank you for your time.

Obtain a single entry non immigrant O visa (being over 50) from Brisbane or other honorary Thai Consulate and be sure you have signed a wire transfer agreement with your bank to allow you to transfer funds by SWIFT when you open an account here (in US banks require this signature in person so suspect Oz may also). Sell everything if you can as most everything is available here but best you ask specifics in other treads for better information. To work you will need a non immigrant visa entry and they may not allow type O if not married to a Thai but it will allow a 90 day stay while you get settled and once employment found you can get a non immigrant B if required. You can not work on retirement visas/extensions so that will wait until later.

Donot like being negative but at your age getting a job teaching english maybe a stretch. They tend to like there teachers younger in Thailand. Wish you luck.
