Medical Insurance For 1 Year Old Baby Only, Not A Parent.

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm coming to Thailand on April 2nd with my 1 year old son and I want to insure only him.

I will start a job in May and then hopefully I can add him as a dependant, but for the first 2-3 months (April, May, perhaps June) I need a medical insurance for him.

I've heard that Bupa is the only company that will do it, does anyone know if they accept monthly payments or they take only annual payment?

I've heard that Thai government hospitals are good and I should do it the Thai way - even when I have to pay for services, overnight stays etc. it's affordable and as good as in private hospitals. Now, I'll have my taxpayer card at the end of May (I assume) so then I can go to those hospitals. What happens before I get the card? Let's say, my son gets sick in April and I don't have the card yet. Can I still go to the hospital and pay, is it going to be more expensive ? Does anyone have such experience?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

In Thailand health insurance is annual pay. Bupa does have a monthly pay program, but I don't know if you will be able to qualify.

Thai Health Insurance (THI) will insure children without insuring a parent. (annual pay only)

Anyone can use a government hospital. Show your passport ID and pay.

I have never heard of a government hospital charging expats more.

You an always use Thai government hospitals, but when you pay social security you get it for free. Without it you need to pay. The prices are very reasonable at government hospitals, it is more the serious complications such as ICU that cost a lot.
