Five Senior Bangkok Police Officers Transferred: Gambling Dens

In a real police department, if a policeman commits a crime he is charged and put in jail. If your police department is nothing more than a thinly veiled mafia in nice uniforms like Thailand, then punishment in fact consists of having to step away from the feeding trough, AKA inactive post. But I guess with only a 30 day vacation from the trough, that should not really jeopardize the monthly payments on the Mercedes Benz, and the mia noi will have to lean out her lifestyle for the month.....lol...

try to see things positive.

and its just gambling dens. what you want. the death penalty for them?

they should be removed from the police force loose their pensions and be jailed just like every other criminal but seeing they are the ptp's private army they will get off.

From the original story :

"None of them was allowed to be released on bail."

So let me get this straight. In Thailand if you kill someone

like that actor did, or if you torture a young Burmese girl, you simply

post bail and walk away. But god forbid, if you are caught gambling

at a underground casino and make the local police look bad, now no

bail for you... too funny for words..

bail or not is not up to the police to decide.

you are comparing apples with oranges here.

Turning a blind eye to a criminal operation (& probably profiting from it). Unfortunately the corrupt BIB are off to an inactive post but the poor punters are locked up. And FYI, the police do have the power to set bail before a court appearance.

Sent to the "happy retirement home" I just wonder where this place is & how much it costs??

Seems to be a lot of "inmates"

It's here Thailand, I'm in it, along with countless others and yes costs have spiralled

be negligent, turning a blind eye or profiting from it are quite different things. we don't know what is the case here.

if i read it right its off to an inactive post so they cannot interfere in ongoing investigations. so there is maybe more to come. they consider to punish a Maj Gen.

i don't think bail is set arbitrarily by the police. in this and other cases. they follow the law. have rules for it.

there are a lot of decent police men in Thailand not all are bad.

i don't get this mud throwing at anything here. for what?

We have had plenty of previous instances of the BIB being involved (even running) illegal gambling joints. Anyone who has been around for a while here knows that they are the most corrupt (jointly with PTP) organisation in the country. You need to open both your eyes & your mind. Read Post No: 13.

However, do a little research & you will find that the police can legally set bail for cases where an individual is charged and will have to appear in court later.

no, we don't know to what degree those suspended officers were involved in that illegal gambling joint. we have just speculation.

inactive post, that is how its done here. time to accept. why get angry and agitated all the time.?

that was so all the time and has nothing to do with ptp in power.

if you would live here you would know that there a lot of decent policemen out there doing decent work. and it is not that bad as all these stories you can read on the Internet.

okay, there is also bad police. but bad police you do have all over the world and not only in Thailand.

Sure you got bad police everywhere but the difference is in other more developed countries they are usually punished if they cross the line.

But I do agree there are good police officers around, also agree its not a PTP thing as this is ongoing for as long as people know.

As I've already said, when you read a news report that you have seen many times before, you know how far the BIB are up to their neck in rake-offs. Who's angry? I'm just expressing my opinion (like everyone else here).

I never said that the PTP had anything to do directly with this case. What is true in Thailand is that the 2 most corrupt institutions are the BIB & PTP. Yes, I've met a few decent policemen but also met more than a few corrupt ones. BIB extortion is a daily occurance here.

This is about Thai police not the world.

I am still trying to figure out ZZ. 175 posts in 3 days must be some kind of record.

On that point one wonders that in past time they would be the ones in the bundle of letters written in crayon.

The sign of an experienced troll.

And effectively the five senior police get a 30 day vacation.

It does say this is whilst there's an investigation. If they're found to be guilty then they shouldn't just be moved to an inactive post but probably sacked/ Of course whether that will happen is another matter but let's hope.

I just hope some idiot doesn't come along and claim it's not gambling but some ancient Chinese custom.

Death penalty no, Loosing there job and a prison sentence might be in order,

Problem is thailand does,nt really have a police force.

Oh it has one, but it is wholly corrupt, incompetent and dare I say it... Criminal.

Thai culture and society created this monster, it was no accident. It thrives under the mai bpen rai culture of ignorance, a lack of responsibilty, morals and ethics and gets rich off the greed and malfeasance of the ordinary citizen.

There is no investigative policing here; just the usual culture of ham fisted, incompetent bullying that preys on the weak and emboldens the cretins in positions of power.

Any person who gives two jots about this country or its people should be sickened and embarrassed by the police here.

Farang Talk , i could not have put it any better well done.

I am wondering about that myself.... Hey maybe there is a ZZ team !!!

Could be part of the new tourism campaign, where the government assembles a team of Thai people in room. Then they scour TV for any post that makes fun of Thailand or casts it in a bad light. Then they launch into full attack mode on the poster that would dare question anything Thailand does. :-)
