Thai Lower House Passes Loan Bill With 284:152 Votes

Featured Replies

The Thai House of Representatives voted 284 against 152

that is more than a clear signal whom the parliament supports.

Unfortunately that is PT votes and PT does not represent the majority of the people. Only 48%

It is the Pts game and there rules so just bend over and grab your ankles.

Interesting that PTP increased their share of the vote since the 2007 election by some 8%......the Democrats, despite being handed the opportunity to prove their quality and govern, by some 0.5%....maybe the Democrats were perceived to be too slow to implement benefical improvements to the Thai infrastructure, and revive the rural economy

In case anyone is fooled into thinking that only the Democrats 'failed' (a lie) to improve Thailand's infrastructure - as some brown-notes Farangs seem to believe - Thaksin's previous stint (a lot longer than the Dems) not only failed, but actually tried to prevent extensions to the BTS which the BMA were forced into organising.

All previous governments totally failed to sort out the mess at the SRT, much of it not of its own making but due to imposed cheap fares not properly subsidised - leading to huge losses and being unable to improve the antiquated rail system & rolling stock.

Now that this is approved, I do hope that what is planned comes to pass. I have a more optimistic view that the improvements to the existing railways are achievable, not necessarily within the over optimistic time scales. As far as the HSR is concerned, I have serious doubts that it is doable, not to mention viable.

sometimes I that any rail link slightly faster and a wee bit more reliable than what we've got today would already be a tremendous improvement.

Constitution 2007

Section 177. A Minister has the right to attend and give a statement of facts or opinions at a sitting of the House. In the case where the House of Representatives or the Senate has passed a resolution requiring Ministers to attend a sitting for any matter, he shall attend the sitting. The provisions of section 130 governing privileges shall apply mutatis mutandis.

In the case where a Minister is a member of the House of Representatives simultaneously, he must, in the sitting of the House of Representatives, abstain from voting in relation to the matter concerning with the holding of his position or the performance of his duty or the matter he has interests therewith.

Thank you. Another case of TIT!

So does that explain why 7 of Abhisits finest decided not to vote against the bill?

Abhisit had 1.43 Trillion baht to be used as stimulus package for Thailand. Apparently the most important part of this package was to create 1.5 million jobs in 3 years. Not so sure he managed that but still.

Somewhere down the list of projects was transport, but even then the emphasis was on roads (google BJP and dust free roads and you'll find out why) with rail worthy of a bit of a mention, it seems grudgingly, no specifics.

So no better, no worse than the Thaksin, Samak, Somchai or Chaovarat governments

With regard to transportation, the Government by the Rural Roads Office has a plan to build more roads from 8.3 % to 100 %. The result of which will help to reduce the current logistic cost per GDP from 19 % to 16 %, and will also help develop the rails and mass transit in Bangkok and metropolitan area.
