April 2, 201313 yr Sterling 2 years in our youth system before moving up to a senior do you think he'd have a full England cap if he was still at QPR?.Andre Wisdom 4 years in our youth system. Why didn't you mention Kelly? Is that because he's been at Liverpool since he was 7? All part of the youth system ,players get identified and brought in ,nurtured then if they are good enough make the 1st team squad.I think they call it development.

But if you remember the initial start of the conversation, you accused City of buying the league back. I then asked if you haven't bought players. Those three don't make up your first team. You bought Sturridge, Reina, Johnson, Enrique, Suarez, Agger, Coutinho, Downing, Henderson, Assaidi, Shelvi and Skrtel. Blimey, that's a super youth system!! Admit it, your trying to buy the league aren't you? I'm not saying you shouldn't be able to buy players I'm just saying don't throw stones when you yourself are in a glass house

April 2, 201313 yr Author if you remove external issues it's suarez. but i don't think he'll get it. his figures this season are ridiculous. carrick is an interesting shout nev but a bit too considered for this sort of headliney nonsense. three most impactful players have been bale, suarez and van persie by a mile. van persie will probably get it simply for helping united win the title. gerrard's had an amazing season by the way but won't get much credit for it. arguably my favourite player to watch has been cazorla. Nah - vanP has not dominated the scorers list nor scored a hatful of stunning goals this year. Last year he seemed to be untouchable whereas this year he has had games where he has been nondescript. It'll be Bale or Suarez with the latter being the popular choice on terraces and Bale the popular choice with the upstanding football administration types. I reckon the working football journos would go for Suarez. Who chooses? Who chooses? Good question I don't know. Is it the best and fairest award,or just the best because Suarez would win the best.sorry to say. Has a Goalkeeper won this award? Carrick is a good choice Nev I'm not sold on one player yet , Bale i like to watch and Van persie is class in front of goal should be close there are two awards, the PFA award (voted for by the players) and the football writers' award, which is voted for by journalists at the end of the season. the flaw in the system is that the PFA one gathers its votes in about february or even late january or something daft. so the player of the season isn't based on a season. for that reason alone i think that van persie will get the PFA one because he was on fire up until about february or so. the writers' one will probably be between bale and suarez. good nods to vertonghen, baines, michu, carrick etc. number of players have had really good seasons but aren't particularly celebrated or headline-grabbers. also telling that there isn't one single man city player getting a mention in this discussion. Thanks for answering the question about the process

Zabaleta has had a much better season than either Baines or Verthongen, but not enough to be considered player of the year. For me its Suarez followed closely by Bale and then Michu
April 3, 201313 yr "Zabaleta has had a much better season than Baines or Vertonghen" Is that so Jack!!! You're having a laugh mate.
April 3, 201313 yr baines has had an outstanding season. best left-back in the division easy this year.

April 3, 201313 yr Toss up between Bale and Suarez. I'll go for Suarez, mostly because he doesn't play for Tottenham.

April 22, 201313 yr Author As per my first post about this subject it didn't take long for Suarez to be a grub again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! add biting to the player of the year award
April 29, 201313 yr Guess we all know by now who won the awards. Btw, at what age is the cut off from not being part of the Young Player of the Year?
April 29, 201313 yr Opening post...... Player of the Year award in EPL Who is your choice and Why? and what makes a Player of the year? In my opinion if Suarez gets it, that will do me I give up trying to understand the process. Don't you want the Player of the Year to be someone you can be proud of, an example of the beautiful game???? So far this player has omitted to Cheating on the field by falling down then cheated again with the hand ball in the FA cup has been done for Racism,Punched a player in the face and shows terrible sportmanship on the field every game. Nobody is perfect I know but can he be the Best I hope not, What are your choices ? Bale , Van Persie , Bentekie , Michu , Toure ????? Who would of known what Suarez would do next? interesting read this thread and congratulations on a terrific season Gareth Bale.
April 29, 201313 yr Suarez will never win it now. Which is nice. Maybe he won't but he has to be a contender for Sports Personality of the Year. Edited April 29, 201313 yr by carmine
April 29, 201313 yr Guess we all know by now who won the awards. Btw, at what age is the cut off from not being part of the Young Player of the Year? Ok, found it, so disregard. Aged 23 or under at the start of the season
