2 Questions: Android Translate App; Sim Cards

Featured Replies

1) I read someone had an app, where they take a photo of a Thai script and it translates to English , anyone know what this is ?

2) I am in the US, I have a Galaxy Mini running Gingerbread; I'm wondering, if I come to Thailand and buy a 7-11 SIM card; will all the apps still work the same or will I lose some apps, is anything stored on the actual SIM card ?

3) OK 3 questions; I have a google voice number, maybe I can link it to a Skype number and somehow get my mobile in Thailand to ring ?

Thanks

hmmm too bad

looks like my phone or OS is already too old ; mobile changes too fast it seems

both links/apps are saying this:

This app is incompatible with your AT&T Samsung GT-S6500.

2.) What is the exact model number of your phone? Settings, About phone, Model number. Is it locked, or unlocked to any carrier in the U.S.? Assuming it is an unlocked S5570 then it will work fine here. This model supports 900/2100 MHz 3G so your service provider options are limited to AIS/One-2-Call or TOT/MVNOs if you require 3G. AIS, TrueMove and DTAC will start to deploy 2100 MHz 3G this year, exact timetable TBD.

3.) You can use GrooVeIP to interface with your Google Voice telephone number; so you can call the U.S. for free and calls to your GV # will ring through to Thailand - assuming you have a WiFi/decent 3G connection.

hi, thanks, ok yes, it's an "unlocked" but not "rooted" galaxy mini Samsung GT-S6500 ; i can't find any OCR that actually works in google play; tried them all, one almost worked but wants to access google drive, which i don't want to do; i have gingerbread 2.3.6; i may end up rooting the phone soon to cyanogenmod, whichever old version will work on this phone, is that going to make it not work in Thailand? ; is AIS a 'decent 3g service' ? I see google translation app has "camera option" but not sure if that is OCR, but doesn't support Thai yet, maybe that is not so far away, would be nice... A lot of app's don't work on this phone because it has no auto-focus i've discovered, hard to stay ahead of the obsolete curve without signing a contract for 2 years in USA.
