aguy30
No telling who, what or where the was survey is based on the info given. Without knowing what and how questions were asked the end results are a useless post that does not give a reasonable amount of valid information to make any assumption or analysis. SteeleJoe
How on earth do they equate 1,253 people to be representative of over 60 million Thais? Did you think national surveys typically ask every single person in a country a question to get their results? Mudcrab
A lesson in statistics: Three statisticians go hunting for ducks using bow and arrows. The first one shoots and goes high - one metre above the duck The second one shoots and goes low - one metre below the duck. The third statistician yells "we got it" Edited April 9, 2013 by Mudcrab

how241
So, the great majority are OK with lewd dancing and skimy dressing along with the water throwing during Songkran. Well, I guess the minority just needs to stay at home during Songkran....they'll probably watch and record the lews dancing, skimy dressing, and water throwing on TV. Happy Songkran!!! Happy Songkran!!! Try to stay dry.

Popular Post whistleblower
Lets face it, this is their country. Whatever foolish, stupid inane acts they do over Songkran they will defend it as their culture, the Thai huggers will agree, the hedonists wont care as long as they get laid. After its happened 753 people will be dead through drunk driving/drink related accidents, 213 14-15 year olds will know what a penis is, 7-8 uni students will have got their tits out on silom/Khao san road, half the male thai population will have seen a nipple that isn't attached to a family member. Lao Khao sales will hit a high. Policemen will view it as their Christmas bonus. Politicians will be spending it elsewhere and the sane intelligent people of the world will be understanding why nobody wanted to colonize this backwater den of inequity!!! Andre0720
How on earth do they equate 1,253 people to be representative of over 60 million Thais? Where is there any mention of 60 million people in the post? That was your assumption. It is the results based on 1253 people and your personal assumption that it was for all Thailand. Ever heard of statisticians??? Simply google it.. In statistics, quality assurance, and survey methodology, sampling is concerned with the selection of a subset of individuals from within a statistical population to estimate characteristics of the whole population. It seems you have the same ability to ASSUME what it means, not what it says. Read the article again and maybe you will get it right, maybe not. I seems like maybe you got it right....and maybe not...

animatic
Another example of a headline that is stupid and misleading. Glad to see a large majority support "Lewd Acts During Songkran" I wonder who decided what the definition of "lewd" is when carrying out the survey ? Or is this just another case of a headline that is more likely to attract readers!! lewd [lood] Show IPA adjective, lewd·er, lewd·est. 1. inclined to, characterized by, or inciting to lust or lechery;lascivious. 2. obscene or indecent, as language or songs; salacious. 3. Obsolete . a. low, ignorant, or vulgar. b. base, vile, or wicked, especially of a person. c. bad, worthless, or poor, especially of a thing. It would appear that 2 of every 3 people have no objection too this, or a distinct delight in the possibility of viewing same without going to the no tell motel. To view Ignorant Low and Vulgar conduct is a daily thing. Wicked seems to be run of the mill in LOC Land Of Corruption Bad, Worthless and Poor quality, well let the buyer beware is standard Thais shopping rules. No inciting to lust, lechery or lasciviousness, that might perk some interest as long as the ladies with quifed hair aren't around. What they do here, vs what the label 'obscene here never seems to find a common language and definition. Hense 2-3 people, without a body by Fischer hairdo wearing grannie looking over their shoulder, liking a little holiday naughtiness seems about right. TheGhostWithin
I bet they did not survey any Farangs ... anyone ... anyone... ? May I suggest that approximately 66.6% of surveyed persons may have been Farang (men and women, who both enjoy watching skimpy dancing and skimpy acts, and have even been known to partake in it) if they knew what was good for them. A great example of an attempt by higher powers to manipulate the media to attempt to purvey something differently than it actually is by turning the 2 in 3 approval of such actions into a 1 in 3 rejection, silencing the majority. Hang on a minute.. I have seen this strategy utilised somewhere else within the Kingdom before..

I think he was commenting that the survey pool in comparison to the total population appeared a little low to produce an accurate result if the survey asked more serious and important questions. It was also noted that the test pool source (e.g. was it tested on grounds at a university or out in the public or in government house) was not quoted, so it cannot be gauged how much of an "average" test pool was established to source results from. I don't think "ThaiVisa CSI specialist" meets the definition of a cliché, but sarcasm perhaps. You know, the judge, jury and executioner types based on minimal facts or misinformation. It is self explanatory if you have read as much as you claim. Telling someone to "go back home" isn't my normal style. Maybe you have confused me with someone else. I don't object to someone having a different opinion but I do object to someone having a stupid opinion or comment. You may suggest as you like. It is an open forum.
