Hi

My friends sister just had a baby girl and I would like to bring her some stuff from the USA ,

I get an extra 70 pound bag of luggage so what would you bring ?

I live in a upper middle class area and I can get most baby things "USED" cheap at the church flea market etc.....

So what USED things should I bring that are expensive new in Thailand but might be worth bringing ?

I do not see many people using strollers ,

Baby carrier sling that holds the baby when you walk around

Bouncer seat

Car seat ???? never saw a Thai use one !

Baby swing

As you can see I am clueless what you really need , or may want if its a gift

I can buy the diapers , formula etc in BKK so no reason to bring it....

I have 2 months to go "shopping" for this stuff and come back every 4 months so can bring more smile.png

Fire away , make this baby happy

google images for 'baby walker'

It builds strength in their legs, gives the baby mobility/independence, usually has toys attached, and Mom can feed the baby or the baby can feed itself - anywhere, anytime.

Ehh..but have heard just the opposite from several friends. That a baby should learn to walk naturally without the use of artifcial aids like walkers. These walkers weaken their leg muscles. Makes sense to me.

Bull-puckey.

A little common sense is needed as far as 'time in the chair'. It's not a living space.

Also, need to watch 'where the chair is used' to avoid accidents.

Still much safer than the back of a motorcycle...

yeah I do wonder how all the safety stuff i might bring over gets lost when the baby / toddler / young child is on the motorcycle taxi .... ..

But I will try....one step at a time.......to help smarten them up ....

yeah i know those baby walkers , round with the baby sitting in the middle, I wonder if they make adult sizes it looks like fun :)

My other friend said a bouncy harness thing that attachs to the door....

Anything else ?

thanks for your ideas........

Here's another controversial idea. I've seen very small Thai kids playing with an iPad (or knock-offs). I was amazed at how quickly they learn to use it for games and for all their videos (cartoons, etc.). They don't watch TV - too boring.

Get something for a one year old, because at 6 months they change quickly and don't pay much attention for long.

Some hard wearing toys that are colorful and have things to learn.

Defiantly a car seat, good quality cotton baby clothes very expensive in Thailand, small paddle pool, sun blinds for the car windows, bibs. Good luck

thanks for your ideas, they do not have a car or truck so not sure how the sun blinds would go over in a taxi :)

But even a car seat can be used in the house so thats on my list,

I will look into the clothes and bibs......

keep the ideas coming

thanks

Baby was born February 1st but I will be back in Thailand the end of June so it would be 6 months old then.......

But I will look for some colorful toys , any suggestions ?

Thanks for your thoughts

Ear plugs.

(I'll get my coat)

Funny you said that because I already gave them some before the baby was born :)

they will probably be worn out by June so I better bring some more......

If it's the first time you've seen the baby, how bout a nice bottle of wine and a couple of cigars? Have the parents got a camera to take pics? Probably do. How bout a jumper, the ones that go on a door frame and bubs jumps up and down on. How about baby bum wipes, heard they are expensive in Thailand. Anyhow I'm going in July and mine will be a 6month old also so if I think of anything good I will certainly let you know ok.

Hi......yes I was there a few weeks ago and saw the baby then , they have a camera in their phones so thats covered.....

yeah the jumper is on my list , I did not check price of baby wipes but I had some with me anyway so they got those plus the baby powder I always bring for me :) Its stuff you can buy at the Dollar store here.

Thanks for your ideas

a baby bjorn carrier, good for mum or granny to carry the baby around whilst having hands free. My mil loved it when my son was a baby as she could still do her business with the baby strapped to her.

Most of the stuff you mention OP can be bought here in BKK in the department stores like Central or in Mothercare.

A safari playnest and gym is something we brought from UK as never saw here. It's an inflatable ring and activity play gym. The real beauty is mum can put a 3month old baby in there to get a little breathing space. Before that my wife would take our first baby girl everywhere - toilet, shower etc. This allowed her to put the baby down in a safe environment for a breather so mum can have hands free without worrying for a while

We also had a baby bjorn carrier like Boo mentions - good too - and we brought over from UK as we didn't see here. Particularly for guys carrying a baby around, so you could even use it yourself for extra brownie points smile.png

Based on past experience, bring a nice stroller. They will love it around their town and farm. Even if others don't have one. Baby clothes if like-new. Baby toys are hard to find. Bring a lot of them.

I will look for a stroller , they live in the city and probably have never seen a farm :)

I think with the sidewalks so bad I might look for one of the 3 wheel ones that have bigger wheels.....

just not sure how small they break down to so they can get it in a Taxi :)

Baby will be 6 months when I am there in the end of June and and 11 months when I come back around Christmas so I can bring another load of stuff then biggrin.png

Any sort of early learning toys, toys that the baby has to think what he is doing like stacking blocks, pots that fit inside each other (baby takes them out and tries to put them back), children books (pop up, touchy feely books) or anything you can find what will stimulate their mind. Toys like this are hard to find in Thailand.

I bought a stroller and I can count the amount of times I have used it on 2 hands!

A decent baby carrier would be a better option. Front carrier would be good for another 2/3 months then they would need a backpack style carrier.
