I am planning to fly from Bkk with parents and 5 year old daughter and stay for a week or so. I am considering hiring a car at the airport and driving if it is possible. Any suggestions please?

How long? It's about 175 km from Phuket Town to Krabi bus station and the road isn't too bad, so you can estimate a couple of hours or so in a car depending on jairawn/jaiyen.
