39 Road Deaths On First Day Of Songkran's Seven Dangerous Days

39 in one day is less than the daily average for the year.

Approx 20,000 / 365 = 54 per day.

Actually a gov minister just a few weeks back said it was up to 26,000. So it's an even better improvement. whistling.gif

Bet that in the end of manipulating their own numbers the 7 dangerous days of Songran is safer than a normal weekblink.png

And what's your point? That on each and every day, 54 people are killed? Duh! I am not great at maths but even I understand averages.

20,000 is way off the mark. In 1999 it was 12,040 and has been steadily falling. Last year 2012 the number of deaths stood at 7,784 which is a daily average of 21.32. 39 is 18 higher than last yrs average.

You may want to read this. Thailands very own interior minister admits the official figures are bs and that the true total is inline with WHO figures of 26,000 per year.

That site is poorly researched bunkum. The actual numbers are not reported. They only count those dead at the scene of an accident, not those that die later or as a result of their injuries. That website claims their figures are accurate, and contradicts the fact that deaths at the scene are the only ones recorded (facts according to independent bodies, UK government etc). Other countries count deaths within 30 days towards the figures.
