PHUKET: -- British national Hugh Glass, 57, wanted for multiple sex crimes involving children, was arrested yesterday afternoon while walking along the beach road in Phuket’s key tourism town of Patong.

Col Chayawut Jansomboon of the Immigration Police in Bangkok led officers to arrest Mr Glass on Thaweewong Road at 3:30pm.

The arrest followed Jonathan King of the UK-based Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) meeting Royal Thai Police Immigration chief Lt Gen Pharnu Kerdlarpphon in Bangkok last Thursday.

At the meeting, Mr King presented Gen Pharnu evidence Mr Glass had served a prison sentence in Malta after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a child.

Once it was proved Mr Glass had been previously convicted of a sex crime, Gen Pharnu ordered for his permit to stay to be revoked and that the UK national be deported, and handed over to the British authorities.

Mr Glass’ criminal record stretches back to 1974, when he was 18 years old and handed down a suspended sentence for sexual assault, explained Phuket Immigration Investigator Chidchanok Sakornyen.

Arrested for repeat offenses in the United States in 1982, 1989 and 1990, Mr Glass was handed down a total of 20 years in prison. However, he was released from prison in the US on November 11, 1998.

Mr Glass resurfaced in Malta, where in 2006 he was sentenced to six years in prison for sexual assault of a child.

Released after four years behind bars, on April 9, 2010, Mr Glass found his way to Thailand were he started working in hotels, Lt Col Chidchanok said.

“Out most recent records show that he arrived in Phuket on February 18 this year,” he added.

However, how long Mr Glass had been in Phuket – and Patong in particular – remains unclear.

Phuket Immigration officer Capt Angkarn Yasanop told the Phuket Gazette that police were currently investigation reports that Mr Glass had sexually assaulted two boys from New Zealand when the order came from the top to move in and arrest him.

The boys were in Patong on holiday with their parents in April last year when the alleged attack occurred.

“After the family returned to New Zealand, the boys told their parents they were sexually assaulted by Mr Glass, who was working at the hotel where they were staying,” Capt Angkarn explained.

“The parents filed a complaint in New Zealand and the New Zealand embassy [in Bangkok] contacted us. While officers were building their case, we were contacted by the UK embassy and requested to deport him,” Capt Angkarn added.

British molester arrested in Phuket, deported
Nattha Thepbamrung

PHUKET: -- Briton Hugh Glass, 57, was arrested yesterday (April 11) by Phuket Immigration Police at the request of the UK’s Serious Crime Squad, which wants him for child molestation offences.

He was arrested after a phone call was made to him, inviting him to a meeting at the Sea Pearl Villa hotel in Patong.

Police said Glass has a long record of sex crimes against juveniles.

In 1974 in Scotland he was placed on parole for a year. He was arrested three times in the United States, in 1982, 1989 and 1990 when he was jailed for 20 years. He was released after serving eight years in jail.

He was arrested again in Malta for similar offences, once in 2001 and twice in 2006. Once again he was jailed, this time for six years. He again released after four years.

Glass arrived in Thailand in 2011 to work in a hotel in Phuket.

Complaints were laid against him that he had sexually assaulted two boys in the hotel. Those complaints were still under investigation when the request for his arrest and return to the UK was received.

The complaints will now not be pursued as Glass was sent home under escort this morning.

“After we received the request from the British Embassy, we cancelled his visa,” Pol Capt Angkhan Yasanop of Phuket Immigration Police said today.

“He was sent back to Britain this morning.”

Gosh, this scumbag has quite a rap sheet around the world. Hopefully a UK prison will be able to provide him room-and-board longer than the other countries have.

How did he get the visa to enter Thailand and a job in the first place????

Any monkey can get a visa to enter Thailand and any other country - when was the last time you were checked for a criminal record?

Why is he in a shirt and tie walking down beach road?

He was walking to a meeting on Child Sex Abuse? - you'd really have to ask his house maid that question!

So the two boys sexually assaulted in Phuket last year.... once the investigation is done and they want to lay charges.

Is he going to be locked up for years in the UK while they try to extradite him back??

The cops look like they've just won a snooker tournament and have arranged themselves ranked in height order to receive the trophy. Wouldn't be surprised if they opened up a shaken bottle of Asti Spumante and spurted it all over Mr Glass's head for good measure.

Mr Glass will be able to write the Rough Guide to prisons around the world when he is done. Pity he had no chance to experience live in a Thai prison with ladyboy hookers catering to his every need. The other inmates in a British prison will probably be less understanding.

He's not going to Prison in the UK, there is no mention of pending charges against him or extradition.. but they may want to interview him on suspicion..

Maybe the British Police were simply being pro-active..

It seems to me that Thailand are saying they don't want him in the country, at British Embassies request.

I really hope this is the start of a new trend and the sharing of information on sex offenders (and other serious offenders) becomes common place here.

When he arrives in UK after deportation he may simply lose his passport and be subject to a sex offenders travel ban (like Gary Glitter)

At least this pervert won’t be using British tax payers money for the next 10 years fighting his deportation back to the UK in the European courts, Bye Bye.

Why the hell not? Is there a dress requirement for that area?

Perhaps he was having a break from work at the hotel, probably needs a shirt and tie for that kind of job.

I don't get why the UK based SOCA had to fly all the way out here on a freebie to present evidence of a crime committed in Malta. He committed the crime in Thailand so why not let him rot in a Thai prison and Mr King concentrate on the multiple pedophile rings operating in the UK.

With the trackrecord of this guy, THIS TIME please throw away the key, before he traumatize more children and potentially spoils the rest of their lives! bah.gif

Na, he'll be back so long as he doesn't keel over during his prison stay wherever he's going.

Thailand has a bad habit of letting these people back in, even after they are deported. Money talks and Thais love talking.
