Might be an idea to tip a few of these hard working mainly happy people. I'm sure the kids working at the thousands of 7 11s in chiang Mai aren't on double time. The guards at my moo baan have a money tree out today. Made a donation. Extra salutes for me. Happy songkran.

Why, is that the custom of out hosts?

There are thousands of different jobs that require unsocial hours, whether they get overtime or not is none of my concern. What I will say however, is that there are various nice people who I deal with all year and I give them a gift at Songkran. If the guards at your moo bahn are helpful, then I think you should give them something, but not because they have a money tree out.
