Thailand's Sharks In Peril.

Featured Replies

On the heels of last months Bangkok CITES meeting where a ban on trade in several species of shark was agreed upon, including the endangered Scalloped Hammerhead, several juvenile Scalloped Hammerheads were found around Kata's markets and restaurants today. Some of them appeared to be underdeveloped, likely unborn pups of a their captured mother. The Scalloped Hammerhead already received protection under Thai law before CITES, but that doesn't seem to be enough to stop it from being caught, sold to markets, and ultimately ending up on ice in front of tourist restaurants. Like most sharks in Thailand, they aren't eaten, but rather used as an exotic bit of advertising. This incident as been reported to authorities and I am waiting to see if any action will be taken.

The worlds shark populations are stressed. Please help us to spread the word and boycott any restaurant selling shark meat, shark fin soup, and especially hammerheads, and tell them why. Here are the horrible photos and video from today.
