Hi to you all, we got married in the UK in December 2012 and my Thai Wife is now living here with me in the UK under a 2 year settlement visa but her Thai Passport has now run out so we need to renew it for her as we intend to go back to Thailand for a holiday later in the year. Can someone advise us on the best way to renew her visa?

Some of her Thai friends here have advised us that she can not renew by post and has to attend in person at a location that moves around the cities of England from month to month. Further more, these appointments need to be booked ahead due to limited places.

Surely there must be a simpler way to obtain her a passport renewal than having to potentially travel hundreds of miles to do it in person.

Many thanks

I am afraid there is no way round it all re-newalls have to be in person, we were at the embassyin london 2 weeks ago to renew the wifes passport and we asked that same question.

The reason for this is that they check your bio-metrics everytime even babies have there thumb print taken, our 7 month old's diddn't look readable to me!

Note that although it is possible to transfer her UK visa from the old passport to the new one; it's not necessary and the UKBA will charge you to do so; £147 by post; a whopping £522 in person!!

As said, it's not necessary to do this and most people don't; they simply carry both the old passport with the visa in it and the new passport, showing both when required; i.e. at check in and UK immigration.

The visa will still be valid, even though the passport it's stuck into has expired.

Thanks 7, not sure this applies to us as I believe her visa is issued on a card now (residence permit) with her biometric details on the back of the card. They did not put any visa in her old passport which was still valid at the time we applied for her settlement visa.

Thanks

Thanks Mary, we live in the Leeds area so a 2 hour trip to Newcastle isn't that bad i suppose. Just out of interest looking at the website, Newcastle is the last place on the list in May, do you know if this means that they will not be renewing any more visas in 2013 after May or do you think they will update the website to show the cities they will visit from June- December 2013

Thanks
