I used Thrifty at Heathrow. They did not ask for proof of address, just drivers license (Thai, five year) and credit card.

IDPs are not good for the country issued in, if the same as IDPs issued by AAA in US.

Yes you do and remember it is only valid for 1 year on the 5 year Thai DL.
