Just came across reports on how d-cycloserine in combination with exposure therapy can be helpful in modulating social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress and phobias, for example http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16520435

Since I do have some issues along those lines I'd like to correct, I was wondering if d-cycloserine is available in Thailand?

I am mostly responding to give this post a "bump".....in hopes that @Sheryl sees it.

But in an effort to add value to the thread while we await a definitive reply.......according to MIMS Thailand (registration may be required):

http://www.mims.com/THAILAND/Home/GatewaySubscription/?generic=cycloserine

......two different brands of D-Cycloserine are available in Thailand

  1. Cycloserine Meiji
  2. Hawon Cycloserine

These are both Category D drugs according to the Thai FDA, and the big question that remains for Sheryl is, "Can these be purchased at independent pharmacies, or only at a hospital?".

Category D drugs can be purchased at a pharmacy. However D-cycloserine is not exactly identical with cycloserine, which is what you refer to and which are drugs used in the treament of TB. There are small chemical differences between the two and all the studies on use for phobias, panic and mood disorders refer only to D-cycloserine.

Also note that research to date on the use of cycloserine has been as an adjunct to other proven therapies, not as a standard alone treatment, and that use of D-cycloserine for psychological disorders is still experimental.

Most importantly - please note that the dosage of the formulations of cycloserine available in Thailand are 5-10 times that used for management of psychological problems with D-sycloserine. Side effects of cycloserine include liver toxicity and convulsions.

Please do not experiment with this on your own. Phobias, social anxiety, PTSD etc should be treated by a qualified therapist who can refer for medication if and as needed. A list of such therapists can be found in the pinned thread on mental health.
