He was not broke and had a pension but the wife had burnt/ taken everything that she could. His friends helped with a room and clothes until she arrived. He was lucky. -

Not stringent enough. All papers should be notarized by the appropriate embassy, translated and legalized by MFA, plus a five-million-baht bond should be deposited in a Thai bank, seasoned for 90 days prior to permitting entry to any casino. It's the only way to be truly sure.
