PHUKET: A Phuket taxi driver is being held by Phuket City Police today following a 19-year-old Chinese tourist alleging the driver held her captive for hours and tried to sexually assault her.

Meth pills, crystal meth worth Bt450 mln seized at Chatuchak Market

BANGKOK, May 18 - Methamphetamine pills and crystal meth pills (ice) worth Bt450 million were seized in the crowded centre of Chatuchak Weekend Market today.

There were 1.45 million meth pills, while eight kilos of crystal meth were confiscated.

According to Immigration Police, a network of ethnic Hmong people smuggled the drugs from Thailand's north, hiding and mixing them with ethnic clothing which was being transported to Bangkok for sale.

The drugs were later delivered and hidden at a hill tribe clothing shop at Chatuchak Market.

Authorities apprehended former Air Force Pvt Panya Wangtrakul, 25, Kasama Charoenman, 35, and Anuchon Laojang, 20.

The three suspects flew to Bangkok yesterday to deliver the drugs to customers, which was to be completed yesterday, but the buyers could not make it and arranged a new date for delivery today.

Pvt Panya said he received Bt100,000, while the other two suspects received Bt400,000 each.

In each delivery, 200,000 drug tablets were smuggled into the Thai capital.

Police initially charged the men with possessing drugs for sale. (MCOT online news)
