BMA prepares for coming wet season
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has put aside 5.8 million sandbags to brace for the upcoming rainy season and is inspecting the strength of billboards across the capital.

Deputy Bangkok Governor Amorn Kitchawengkul said yesterday the BMA should be able to release water within three hours if more than 60 millimetres of rain falls per hour.

He said the BMA had also hired inmates from the Corrections Department to dredge up to 6,090 kilometres of drainage pipes and the job should be completed by July.

The dredging was up to 42 per cent done, while up to 65 per cent of waterways and canals in the capital had been cleared.

Meanwhile, the BMA has joined the Department of Public Works (DPW) and its 50 district offices in checking the stability of billboards.

Deputy Bangkok Governor Jumpol Sumpaopol said Bangkok initially had 1,600 large billboards on 150 key roads, but many unstable ones had already been removed.

Amorn said the BMA has a task force of 700 officials, 1,322 pumps, 54 water jets and 5.8 million sandbags to help ease flooding in Bangkok. Bangkokians can visit dds.bangkok.go.th, follow Facebook bkk.best or bkk_bests on Twitter to monitor storms.

BMA prepares for coming wet season

According to the Thai season calendar, rainy season has already started They had time all year long, but instead, their high status snobbish Pheu Thai counterparts are up in Chiang Mai for Water project fancy lunch seminar, with Ploddi as their main attraction as a water god, and also discussing under the table blood money deals to get the most out if the Trillion-kachillian Water SCAM deal....

All talk and show, but no actions taken, same crap as business usual...

Yes let's have the talk about what needs to be done, what should be done but not what's actually being done because the phrase " very little " isn't worth calling a press conference.

They have had time to sort this all out after the last screw up...

So technically, there should be no problem with rain....

Unless they are still working out who gets what kickback and the project hasnt started yet....-sic-

Sooner or later the Thai people will get smart and demand resignations from political members, simply because they are not taking the peoples interest to heart. If this happens, then it will be a great day for Thailand.

Can no one in Authority find a long term solution to the annual flooding

problem?, every year they have a good idea whats going to happen,

and try and fix it after it has flooded, suppose finding a solution that

finally works, is not as good as the yearly skim offs,

regards Worgeordie

Enlighten me. How is the loan benefiting him? and what has it got to do with the BMA stockpiling sandbags?

.....because his sister will be getting it, who in turn will be spending vast sums of it trying to clear her brother and his cronies...and maybe buy a few sandbags too probably...

It doesn't matter who's in power, the rains are still gonna come.It was happening long before you or me were alive, and it'll still be happening long after you or I are gone. The fact that the thai authorities refuse to take advice from outside countries doesn't help.A few million sandbags ain't gonna stop the rains from coming. It's the old thai saving face thing. We'll sort it out ourselves. The dutch offered to help after the last disaster and they were refused. Why ?.The dutch are masters at controlling water and a lot of the systems they have installed for pumping out water are pretty simple.

I do hope they're putting all those properly inside the drains, BMA style.

Regardless of what these puppets do there will be flooding in Bangkok as so many commercial and industrial developements have been built on well known flood plains. Their main and pivotal concern will simply be to keep the tourist and cental area flood free at whatever expense. Same garbage responses every year. If you vote for clowns you will get a circus.

We need some real deluge from up-river to test the meters high floodwalls around Industrial Complexes and how those effect waterflows towards Bangkok. That would show how meaningful the first THB 120 billion emergency and other repairs have worked out and how essential it is we float another 350 billion.
