Closest Place To Get A Type O Visa.

Featured Replies

Hello,

Looking for the nearest place to get a type O visa. Will be staying in Thailand for 6 months. I will be coming from Dubai, but they will not issue one to me ( Have a US passport).

Do not really want to spend the airfare to fly back to the states for just a visa.

Any advice or help would be great

Thanks

On what basis would you be applying for an "O". Marriage, retirement? If either, easy enough to apply at Savanakhet or Vientiane, Laos. If neither, perhaps consider a double entry Tourist Visa.

See if you can get a tourist visa, preferably valid for two entries, otherwise for just one entry and then get another one from a Thai consulate in Laos or Malaysia.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Reason for O type is I going to buy a motorbike , and thought I would need a O visa . Do need a O visa to buy and register a motor bike ? Would a tourist visa be ok ?

Your last post talked about a triple entry tourist visa. If Dubai will not issue a single entry visa as I explained on that post, then you could either come in on a 30 days visa exempt entry and travel to Laos and get a double TV, or fly directly to Vietianne, Laos and apply for a double TV. You cannot obtain an "O" unless you have a Thai family or are over 50 years old.

Thanks Wayned and all for the help. This visa stuff ( too me ) is confusing. Thought I would need a O type visa to buy a used motor bike. Going first to Laos for visa , than Thailand.

Normally you do need a Non-O visa to register a motorbike. One of the requirements is proof of residence. That is normally accomplished by getting a certificate of residence from immigration. However, most immigration offices will will not issue one unless you have a Non-O visa and have made a 90 day report. Another way is to get the certificate of residence from the embassy. The US Embassy may issue the cert with only a Tourist Visa. Search the Bikes forum for more details.

It does not have to be a non-o visa any non immigrant visa would be the same.

A non immigrant visa is not required to purchase a motor bike or even a car. What you do need is a certificate of residence.

Whether immigration will issue or not will depend upon the office you use. Some will only issue if you are on an extension of stay while others will do it with a tourist visa and some do not do them at all.

If you cannot get one at immigration you can get one from the embassy that will be an affidavit that costs $50.

Info here: http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/service/notarial-services.html

Once you get the affidavit you would need to have it translated to Thai.
