PHUKET: -- The investigation into a Phuket Tourist Officer involved in a gunfight with neighbors that left two men dead and two, including the officer, injured on March 20 (story here) has come to a standstill.

Police are still waiting for results from the Office of Forensic Science Police to determine whether the bullets that killed the two men were fired from Tourist Police Officer Pinchai Piyadilok’s gun, Phuket City Police chief Col Sermphan Sirikong told the Phuket Gazette.

“The Office of Forensic Science Police is loaded with cases from across Thailand, so we cannot be certain when the results will come. When they do, we will pass them along to the Public Prosecutor,” said Col Sermphan.

“We will consult with the prosecutor’s office to determine which charges to pursue against the suspect,” he added.

Sgt Pinchai, whose right leg was amputated in order to save his life (story here) was discharged from the Prince of Songkla University Hospital in Haad Yai in April, he said.

“We let him out on bail in order to get him the treatment he needed at the hospital. He is now recovering at his house in Chumphon.

“He lost a leg, which makes it almost impossible for him to get around, so we are not worried that he will skip bail,” added Col Sermphan.

The other survivor from the gunfight, Natthapong Kaewkuanchum, 25, who was shot three times in the chest, has also been discharged from hospital and is recovering at his house in Nakhon Sri Thammarat.

“When the incident happened in March, Mr Natthapong declined to give any statement to investigators. He claimed that he did not remember what happened. We are in the process of contacting him and will try to question him again.

“As for Sgt Pinchai, who also has not told us anything about what happened on the day of the incident, we are not in a position to force him to tell us anything. Therefore, we still don’t know what happened in that room,” concluded Col Sermphan.

<deleted>!!!!!

......but he could hop on a bus, eh??

partly true it is next to impossible for handicap people to move freely in Thailand. giant curbstones , wheelchair ramps that are completely missing or inaccessible for those that need em with 1 leg i doubt he wil be hopping on a bus but can crawl in one for sure

Er... how about a mate driving him up-country?

Nice to see the investigating officer has a sense of humour.

Let's see, the POLICE forensics unit doing tests to determine if a POLICE officer should be held responsible for a murder case???

Doesn't that seem like a wee bit of a conflict of interest??? But then again, the BIB will probably manage to lose the forensic evidence somewhere along the way.

Meanwhile, "Hop Along" probably will get a disability retirement pension and live comfortably for the rest of his life.

I suspect that the bullets might have been fired from a gun!!

just more bullsh*t from the RTP. Ballaistics testing for bullet matching is a 30 minute procedure with a binary microscope as long as the bullets are not significantly deformed. How many case are put on hold for months on end owing to the delays in forensic evidence. If and when the ballistic evidence becomes available it will not be suprising if some of the case file have dissapeared. Clowns in a circus.

More smoke & mirrors by the sound of it. 2 people have been killed & yet there appears to be no urgency to resolve the case & it seems that all involved had the same type of gun using the same type of bullets. There is a building on Yaowarat Rd with a sign saying Phuket Forensics Police so I wonder what the people who work out of this office actually do. No thought for the relatives of the victims but once again need to put on a good face. This story is just another example of the wild west mentality amongst law enforcement hard on the heels of the scandalous decision to let the two Aussies walk.

Makes Pattaya police look like an episode of CSI by comparison. We can't let Phuket get ahead of us in stalling, smoke & mirrors, etc. We have a reputation to maintain!
