BARDSTOWN, KENTUCKY (BNO NEWS) -- A uniformed police officer was shot and killed early Saturday morning while driving home from work on a highway in the U.S. state of Kentucky, state police said. There were no witnesses to the shooting and no arrests were immediately made.

The incident was first reported at approximately 2:53 a.m. local time on Saturday when Post 4 of the Kentucky State Police received a 911 call of a fatality crash involving a Bardstown Police cruiser on the 34 exit ramp of Bluegrass Parkway in Nelson County. The first officer arrived at the scene at 3:16 a.m. local time.

"Minutes after our Trooper's arrival he discovered that it was not a motor vehicle crash and that the officer involved had been shot and killed," said state police spokesman Norman Chaffins. "The Bardstown Officer was in uniform in his cruiser and on his way home from work."

It is believed there were no witnesses to the shooting and no arrests were immediately made.

Yes; this is sad and regrettable. But what about...

Airport worker robbed, killed in Newark on way home from work

Where were the police when these crimes happened? Why tell a story of an officer who made the pledge to give his or her life serving and protecting? What about those who rely on that and who are let down because these scum are still on the streets?

Not to seem callous, but why should a police officer get any more attention than those who don't work on the government dole and who do not make it their mission to die in the line of duty?

My point? The police officer was probably shot because the shooter knew he was a police officer. The other victims in my post were murdered for their meager possessions

Life is cold, cruel, unforgiving and often mysterious. What can you do except spare a moment to shed a tear or heave a sigh over mankind's degenerate alter ego, and then move on?
