Baerboxer
Must be irritating for a government like this to be challenged by people exercising the right of freedom of speech. It's much better when the people just listening to what their told - even when its contradictions, "white" lies and promises that don't get delivered.
Popular Post Just1Voice
"I used to be disgusted; now I try to be amused" - Elvis Costello. That has pretty much been my outlook on things here i LOS for some time, but now my "amusement" is slowly, or maybe not slowly, becoming incredulous disbelief at how "thin skinned" and dictatorial in nature the government is becoming. Desperate and frantic searching of current laws to punish those who dare speak against them, and if they can't find anything relevant, no problem, they can always create and pass new laws. Freedom of Speech? Only if your speech agrees with us. Freedom of Expression? Only if your expressions agree with us. Democracy? Yes, as long as it is "our" form of democracy, and we really don't care about the true meaning of the word. Some have expressed the opinion that this opposition by the government to the Guy Fawkes masks will only fuel the flames further, to which I tend to agree. Friends will tell friends, and even though it may be a way to have some fun, the momentum will mount, and the more the government fights against it, the more "legitimate" the movement will become. In the movie "V for Vendetta", near the end, a few thousand people show up wearing the masks and black cloaks. Can you imagine the panic, the nightmares and the insanity that would grip the PTP if a few million Thai did that? Guy Fawkes masks! Coming soon to shops and markets near you! Popular Post Baerboxer
Just listening to a news report that a PTP spokesman has described the Facebook postings as the work of " mentally disturbed " people. Isn't this the excuse the old USSR and others used to lock critics etc away without the need for courts ? Plod called protesters in Chiang Mai " garbage " and refused to apologise but criticse Thaksin, PTP / those in government , policies etc and you are Public Enemy No.1. Yes. USSR, China, and a few others used to declare outspoken critics as mentally ill. Claim being that anyone in their right mind could see how the government was always right, only acting for the benefit of the people and that to say otherwise was tyranny and treason to the people, which must make them insane. Remember - show trials, concentration camps and gulags, "re-education" camps are all methods used by dictatorships to surpress people through terror and fear. Removing freedoms of speach, checks and balances, and weakening independent judiciary and law enforcement are early signs. Worrying how history repeats,

Wavefloater
Pheu Thai Party threatened yesterday to trace and take legal action against Facebook users with profile photos of the Guy Fawkes white mask for attacking the government and former prime minister and de-facto party leader Thaksin Shinawatra. And I thought he was a convicted criminal. He is the De Facto leader. Since when has being honest or operating within the confines of legality been part of politics anywhere? _____________________________ It's amazing what Thai politicians say. Do they really not have the ability to hear themselves and understand how they come across to intelligent people? I think it shows without a doubt that the Thai government is made up of people who gained their office only from nepotism, cronyism, and favoritism -- not due to any admirable qualities, like intelligence or integrity. This particular incident sends a loud message that the PTP has declared itself a dictatorship.

ballpoint
However, the choice of Guido Fawkes as an outlet for this is ridiculous and shows their total ignorance of what he did and why he did it. He was a terrorist, a minor player as part of a silly bunch of upper class English RC plotters who who tried to commit regicide and failed. Did you not read the second sentence? The use of the mask has nothing to do with what GF did in the past the idea came from a recent movie. Most have no idea of way back British history and don't care. These people who are posting on facebook are ordinary Thai's who have woken up to what this Govt is doing and are starting to speak out in the only way they can. When the Govt issues threats against them it only shows them that they are correct and reinforces in them the need to continue. If the Govt had just shut up and accepted that people have a right to an opinion then the whole thing could well have died. Now no chance, they have now been given fresh ammunition to use against the Govt so the movement will grow, with or without the masks. It's actually quite an appropriate name to use, as the Thai word pronounced fok or fawk means to purge or purify. Coincidence or not?

indyuk
The hate mail directed at Taksin seems to have made him even more determined to return to Thailand and politics. There are those that belief that he has suffered enough from the corruption and lies that brought him down and dicredited the Thai Judicery to boot. What Thailand needs urgently is a clean and independent Judiciery. Thereafter a lifetime ban on Thaksin and Abhisit from politics be all that is necessary to allow the democratic and juristic processes to resolve the remaining issues, including rconcilliation. Thaksin suffering? Ah, that was the Yingluck line in her discredited party political speech in Ulaan Bator. Yingluck's political standing rather came down with a bump. It's a far more urgent need here to reform dirty & corrupt politics compared to the judiciary. Thaksin tried to bribe a few of them and they refused to take it. Yes, some criminal courts are far to prone to release convicted criminals on bail. Judges are much more highly regarded than politicians & the BIB for that matter. This thread is not about Abhisit who is not running away from anything.

Salapoo
The ruling government will have to shut the entire Internet down very soon, :cheesy::cheesy: .... will they do it??? That's the only way... Are they capable of? ... Most likely... because the Internet exposes a lot world wide within milli seconds On the other hand you can crack-hack the government agencies' websites because their passwords are "PASSWORD" :cheesy::cheesy: You know, I was in an immigration office around 6 years ago, and noticed a dirty sticker on the front of the monitor plastic, 'user: admin, pass: 12345'. GentlemanJim
It makes me laugh how some of you are complaining that 'Thais do not understand what Guy Fawkes was about'. I cannot believe some of the stuff I read on here sometimes. the image being used is specifically, identical to the image used in what has become a cult film about the people standing up to the Government. It is a METAPHOR! The image being used was never used before the movie...Gawdz Sake! It is used ALL over the world. I hope this just keeps multiplying now. The PTP are making themselves a laughing stock. By the way a post appears on the page from Thaksin, saying 'you idiots why are you allowing them to do this'. That message is quickly called a fake and removed, and a few hours later PTP say they are going to consider legal action and tracking down the FB users! LMAO you could not make this stuff up that PTP get up to.

katana
Hacking a facebook or other account is wrong, and should be considered a criminal act, this regardless who's account it is hacking a facebook account and putting hurtful, disgusting, comments on it is wrong and should be considered a criminal act Think if it was your facebook account or your wife's or daughters account and horrible things were put on it, I challenge you to support anyone who hacks peoples accounts then!!! I THINK NOT we have a right to express views but hacking accounts is wrong... They aren't hacking. Re-read the OP. They're posting messages on public access websites, the same as you are doing here. Unless all the Government websites have message boards, I understood it as hacking: ...Prompong said the government believed the group belonged to the same team that defaced the PM's Office website recently with derogatory messages... ...This message was posted repeatedly on websites of the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and the Facebook pages of Thaksin, his sister PM Yingluck Shinawatra, his son Panthongtae "Oak" Shinawatra, and the Government House website Thai Khu Fah...
